Wolf Man & TCM Tonight

TCM is having random theme night tonight but it's resulting in some pretty good movies. Well okay it's not so random...they are showing movies of sons of famous fathers.

First up was The Wolf Man with Lon Chaney Jr in the title role whose father was the famous silent star and as said earlier will be honored for a day in August.

Right now The Prisoner of Zenda (1937) is on with silent star Douglas Fairbanks' son playing a dastardly yet charming villain (his best role in my opinion). The movie also stars another favorite of mine Ronald Colman ♥ playing 2 roles. It's a really fun adventure movie, so good that they pretty much remade it scene for scene in 1952 with a different cast and in color. Of course this version is better, but the other one has James Mason as the villain so that makes it worth watching for me as well.

Anyways back to the Wolf Man. This was the first time I saw it and I enjoyed it. It's always a nice treat to see a Universal horror film on TCM (they never get the movies during October because AMC or as I like to call it "Always More Commercials" gets exclusive rights).Lon Chaney Jr. was of course very good but my favorite scenes were with the ever wonderful Claude Rains. I was also impressed with the great camera work. Although Rains and Chaney Jr. didn't actually look like father & son it didn't take away from the fact that it was a fun movie (with a very good ending).

tcm, classic film
