True Grit~See This Movie

Happy Day After Christmas!

Anyways I ended up seeing the movie with my friend on Christmas Eve and it was absolutely wonderful. The best non-animated film I have seen in some time. It was funny, moving, and most importantly had the best female character I have seen in a Hollywood film in years. One that is smart, brave, with tons of heart and is not portrayed as a sex object. See Hollywood you can do it if you try.

I also really loved that the relationships in this film were not based on romance but they worked really well. Again that's something you don't see very often.

One of the few cases where I liked the "remake" better than the original (and I enjoyed the original too I just thought overall this one was superior).

There was a little violence but definitely way toned down from the Coen Brothers usual. This was obviously a tribute to the Classic Western. It's a genre I am not a huge fan of but I think this film is one of the best examples.

I also saw King's Speech on Christmas Day which I also enjoyed. I really hope Colin Firth gets the Oscar. I didn't think the theater would be so crowded yesterday but it looks like everyone else had the same idea and every showing of the film sold out. My friend and I had to wait around an extra hour in the theater (because nothing else was open) and wait for the next showing. At least it is was the art house theater that serves things like Scones and tea.

Later on that night we had really good Sushi. So although I don't officially celebrate Christmas I had a good one. I hope everyone else had a very happy Holiday.

And now I have to watch Doctor Who
