Movies I Want To See This Year & The Oscars

Nov 28, 2010 16:20

Many years I don't care at all about the movies coming out this time of year (in other words the movies obviously vying for Oscars). Not so this year, where there are at least 3 movies I want to see and yet I have little time. I still need to see Harry Potter. Well in that case I am trying to find a time that works for a bunch of my friends. It's a tradition to see it with them except everyone has different schedules so it has not been easy.

These other movies it's not as important to me who I see it with. I would even see them by myself which I will probably end up doing for some of them.

Posted this one before but it's worth posting again. Psychological Thriller plus Ballet. What's not to like? Well maybe Mira Sorvino I am not a big fan but I do like Natalie Portman.

Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush, and Helena Bonham Carter I like this cast. I also really like good historical dramas. It's getting very good reviews so far too from its limited release.

This is actually a remake of an older film. I am a big fan of older movies (as you should all know) but in this case I think the new trailer looks much more appealing. Of course I also don't really care for John Wayne. This new version is also supposedly closer to the original novel.

The focus of the novel is a 14 year old girl who wants to avenge the death of her father. Having a female character be the focus of a Western is not common so I think this could turn out really cool. I am so/so on the Coen Brothers films though.

But anyways I would be very surprised if all 3 of these films are not nominated for an Oscar (along with Social Network and Toy Story 3) which might make this year more interesting than most for me since I might actually like more than one film that is nominated (a very rare thing). Of course I might be getting a bit ahead of myself because nice trailers don't mean I will actually like all these films. They definitely all have potential.

The Academy also gave a honorary Oscar to Kevin Brownlow. Most deserved award in awhile.
