boyfriend material: it's a date
yunho/jaejoong
romance, humor / pg13 / oneshot / warning: genderswitch (not yunjae, though)
Of dates, wonky teeth and nail polishes. Plus, a very giddy sister-in-law.

It has been a long while since Jaejoong last went on a date. It was a forced one, even, just because his best friend thinks he does not have a decent social life. Which is true, but that does not matter. He does not deny the fact that he's no social butterfly and honestly, he would like to keep it that way. He just does not do dates. That changed, though, when he met Jung Yunho. They met in the most unconventional way and Jung Yunho did a great job at leaving a lasting impression.

Getting asked out on a date on the first meeting is a no no. Normally, he would have rolled his eyes and maybe smashed the pizza on the guy's face, but (he would like to keep his job, thank you very much) this, this Jung Yunho guy is different. Something tells him that it's okay to give him a chance. And besides, seeing as how he was dressed up yesterday, his obvious fondness of kids is evident and that speaks volumes. Unless he's one of those who are addicted to roleplaying, then...

"That can't be." Jaejoong shakes his head and puts his helmet on. Daydreaming while on the road is dangerous and he cannot risk putting himself in danger. He has a date to go to and he's pretty excited about it. What makes it even more exciting is that he scored one without anyone's help.

He could only hope that everything goes well.

Fifteen minutes before seven, he enters the pizzeria after a delivery two blocks away, he spots Yunho already seated on a table. He smiles to himself and hurries back inside the staff room, intent on making himself presentable by washing his face and getting rid of the smell of oil and pizza with the remaining fifteen minutes that he has.

It was time well spent. Satisfied with how he looks and smells, he steps out of the staff room at exactly seven and punches out before making a beeline to the seemingly anxious Yunho. "You showed up." he says with a smile. He does not know why he's feeling giddy. He has never felt giddy on a date. Maybe once, when he actually liked the guy his best friend set him up with, but that, too, did not end well.

"I'm a man of my words." replies Yunho, returning his smile. He then stands up and holds out a hand which Jaejoong shyly takes. Holding hands is in his list of don'ts, too. Skinship, in general, but then somehow, it would feel wrong if he does not take Yunho's hand in his.

Yunho is planning to take him to the coffee shop ten minutes away from his workplace. The man also has the decency to ask him if he had dinner yet. He says no since it's he truth and Yunho tells him he'd take him to a food stall instead. He politely rejects because he does want coffee but then Yunho says he'd get him his daily fix of caffeine after dinner.

Yunho is not courting him, but if he continues being the considerate gentleman that he is, the moment he asks him if he could do it, Jaejoong might say yes in a heartbeat.

Dinner goes well. Yunho fed him rice and meat. Lots and lots of meat. The man made sure he ate a lot because he thinks he's way too skinny. "Skinny doesn't mean unhealthy, Yunho." Jaejoong tried to defend himself.

"Right. But I'd rather you not be almost there so be a good boy and let me feed you, hmm?"

Jaejoong decided that he might just like Yunho even more.

Proving how he is a man of his words, Yunho takes him to the coffee shop and lets him order his favourite Iced Caramel Macchiato with a slice of Oreo Cheesecake while Yunho orders a Green Tea Latte for himself. "You don't happen to be a health conscious freak, are you?" Jaejoong asks, taking a sip of his drink and moans in appreciation. He chuckles softly when he sees Yunho gaping at him. "I'm sorry. It's been days since my last caffeine fix." He feels the need to explain so he does. "I had to lay off the caffeine. Palpitation." Yunho nods in understanding. He smiles. "So, tell me about yourself, princess."

Yunho groans. "Don't call me that. I'm no princess. I was just being a nice uncle to my nieces. They are the princesses."

"Such a nice uncle they have. It was amusing though, seeing you dressed up like that."

"Hmm. I better get the uncle of the year award."

"No worries, you have my support." Yunho smiles at his response. He smiles wide and Jaejoong suddenly finds his wonky teeth adorable. "Don't get it fixed." he blurts out unintelligibly. When Yunho frowns in confusion, he points at his mouth, his smile not faltering. "Your teeth. It's cute. I like it. A lot."

"Oh." Yunho covers his mouth almost immediately. In embarrassment, perhaps, and Jaejoong could not have been any more apologetic. He apologizes. "No, it's fine. It attracts attention all the time." He removes Yunho's hands off his mouth. "This... this is the first time someone complimented it. Most of the people who notice it wants me to get it fixed."

"Please don't." Jaejoong finds himself saying. "I know I'm no one to you right now and my opinion does not matter, but I'm not lying when I said it's cute."

"That's not true."

"But Yunho I--"

"No. I mean, you're not no one. I asked you out on a date for a reason, and if you'll allow me to, I'd like to take you out on more dates and then maybe when we know each other better I could, uhm, I could get around to wooing you. No pressure though! Feel free to say no."

"Well I'm not going to do that. I accepted your invitation for a date for a reason, too. Should be obvious as to what it is."

The smile on Yunho's face is priceless.

It is a Saturday when Jaejoong decides to give Yunho a visit at home. Last night, they were on the phone talking and Yunho could not stop complaining about work and how he misses Jaejoong. He blushed, felt his body heating up and said he misses him too. Their date four days ago had made the pair unbelievably sappy.

He rings the doorbell twice and is not disappointed when Yunho answers the door with the smile he likes the most. He kisses him on the cheek as a greeting and steps inside. He notices a bottle of nail polish in Yunho's hand but does not ask about it and lets the man ushes him to the living room where a rather tall woman is sitting comfortably on the couch.

"Hi!" she says cheerily, and then blows on her nails. "You must be Jaejoong." Nodding, he takes the space beside Yunho. "I'm Kiko, Yunho's sister-in-law. He just finished painting my nails." She shows him her perfectly manicured nails, wiggling her fingers in the process.

"He paints nails?"

"You didn't know?" she asks, bewildered. "Well, he does. And he's a pro at it, if I may say so. Perks of being gay, I suppose."

Beside him, Yunho snorts and drapes an arm over his shoulder. "She's the mother of the princesses. My brother is out of the country and the princesses are with my mom so she's here to bother me."

"You should meet my kids!" Kiko says with a grin. "They're the cutest. Junko is a ball of sunshine. You gotta love her."

"Junko?" he asks, the name not sounding Korean at all.

"I'm Japanese." she explains. "Well, a Japanese citizen but I'm Korean. Nevermind, it's a long story. Anyway, you should let Yunho paint your nails. I think black would look amazing on you." The pair watches as she rummages a container full of nail polishes. "Found it!" She tosses the bottle of black polish to Yunho who thankfully catches it or it would have hit him hard on the forehead. "Work on his nails while I go get my babies. I'm expecting Jaejoong to be here tomorrow so he could meet them."

Jaejoong continues to watch wordlessly as Kiko gets up, approaches them, gives them both a kiss on the cheek and heads out. As soon as the door slams shut, Yunho turns to look at him. "Well that's my sister-in-law. Now let me do my magic on your nails, mister."

For fifteen minutes, Jaejoong (still) watches in amazement as Yunho expertly paints his nails black.

He could totally get used to this, he thinks as his heart swells in happiness.
