A lot happens when you're doing nothing

Hey there folks, I feel like I've been letting my LJ slip a bit of late. I'll be honest with y'all, with work coming to an end I just have been in a weird spot - like I'm over the old and ready for the new and not truly inspired to do much of anything. But I feel like that's ending too. I have some ideas for some posts, some projects, and a bunch of other semi-cool stuff that will hopefully keep me out of the house a bit more on the one, but will also make my time at the computer better spent as well.

So yeah, work is all done a week from today. To celebrate I'm having a get together at Pecs called "Come Get Laid (off) with Brian". You are of course, all invited. If all goes well we'll go from being employed wise guys at around 9pm to being unemployed April Fools at midnight.

It was good to see all my bear buds having fun at TBRU. I think I didn't really feel the pangs of jealousy until Sunday when brianmn and roguecub (who looks very good sportin' his beard) started to txt me and some hot bear on my Loopt named Mike randomly sent me something suggestive, all from their awesome, lubricated spot on the patio of the Hidden Door. They were kind enough to document their good time a bit so yes, I was sad not to be there - but it was good to see my friends carrying the torch. I didn't go this year because my finances just weren't there and with my job situation it just didn't seem a wise move.

Last night at the bar was a lot of fun. A good assortment of friends and folks from out of town. I cut off and/or tossed four people last night which is sorta rare. One guy was the full on 70s angle dust tweeker with prison tats, f'd teeth, and blood on his cheek from the last fight he'd been in. He came in and tried to shake my hand and I was just like - er, sorry pal - you need to hit the streets. His eyes were totally spinning in their sockets. finfinfin came by to say so long last night too. I was really glad when Sean moved down here and it's a shame to see him go. I know sometimes things don't work out for everyone down here and with the job market as it stands... well, it's a shame.

I've put BSG aside for a while. I felt fine with the ending and really, the problems I had with it say more about me than they do about the show. maverick1303 and Robby were on the patio for quite a while last night - they are brothers in their unhappiness. Don't want to spoil, but Starbuck and the last 5 minutes come up a lot in that conversation.

Matt, profkampf and I went to see a production of "Working" at the old globe on Saturday. It was excellent. Just a great ensemble. We had walk-in seats and ended up in the front row! Double bonus because the sexy older guy in the cast with the awesome furry forearms was totally pointing his junk at me during the whole show. Woo! I might just go back and see it again.

That night a bunch of us went to a bar here called Bourbon Street. My buddy Sean works there and I kinda came up with this idea to drop a "Bear Bomb" on the place. I.e. come into the bar with 20-40 bears and just have some fun. It's a mixed bar and I don't think we blew anyone's mind being there, but it was a Hell of a lot of fun. Thank you to all the guys who showed up. Really, that was just a blast. And I got triznashed! Yeesh, I mean - totally happy go lucky I didn't puke at all but still was totally drunk - kind of drunk. Really cool moment, a gent came up to say hello and it turns out he and his partner knew about the event from listening to the 619Bearcast and following Twitter, LJ, FB, etc. They were visiting from Dublin and were really neat guys.

I want to send a thank you to whomever recommended "The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman" to me. I watched the first season and totally fell in love with it. The bummer is that it doesn't look like the second season was ever released on DVD :( Another thank you to everyone who pointed out the LOST DVD sale and the I Love Lucy complete season sale on Amazon. I bought the complete lucy and pre-ordered season 2 of lost. I also realized that Amazon is WAAAAAAY cheaper than Best Buy, so I'll be completing my LOST and BSG seasons through Amazon. I'm in the middle of a format crisis though. I have some of LOST and some of BSG on DVD but LOST is now coming out on bluray and BSG comes out on bluray in July. I think I'm just going to have to deal with having multi-format collections and be done with it. But it does bug my OCD in a big way - much like the Homer Simpson Head shaped box I have for season six of the simpsons that stands out like a naked old woman, well, anywhere. For the record, I gave up collecting the Simpsons at season 10. I stopped collecting South Park at Six (because they have all their eps available on line).

I mentioned it before, but I'll remind y'all - if you listen to the podcast or are a fan of Top Chef, you'll want to listen to this week's episode. We'll be recording on Thursday (ep23) and Rich Sweeney from Top Chef Season 5 will be our special guest. If you have any questions for RIch feel free to comment them here.

rugbybearpa gets here a week from Saturday. What better way to start my unemployment!

I've dumped a bunch of famous folks from my Twitter account. They're kind of boring people, many of them. Either that or they try too hard and then it's like having Robin Williams on yer shoulder all day. Dave Navarro was a great add though. It's been awesome hearing from him and other members of Jane's Addiction as they get ready for the NINJA tour. Dave even Twittered during the show at SXSW. I had a friend from school ask me what the value of Twitter is when there is Facebook. My answer is basically that I like to keep up with my friends and see what they're up to. I've gotten to where it's pretty much only the 619 guys who I have set to SMS updates and that's just because we tend to use it to invite people to stuff. But Tweetie works great for catching up with the rest of the world. And much like LJ, if I get too far behind I don't worry about catching up anymore. Life goes on whether or not I know about the new flavor of yogurt at Pinkberry or what new pair of shoes Kubz are all a twitter about.

Ok, I think that's it for now. I need to listen back to the last two eps of the podcast so I can update the LJ pages.

Cheers,

B
