Odds and Ends and Apps

Have a handful of things to share today. The first has to do with the nationwide marriage equality marches and rallies that are taking place this Saturday (11/15). If you're not sure if a march is planned in your area or you don't know what the details are I've found a good site that has brought together information for all the cities involved. Just click on the photo - the rest is pretty straight forward. Unfortunately I won't be able to take part this time around as I'll be in Bakersfield with family. But if I'm able I might just sneak away to take part in the march there.

Hey 619ers and mixmuttmcnasty - I got my Jimmy Eat World ticket today. The show is on Friday, March 6th at the SD House of Blues. Can't wait to finally see this awesome band. I've been playing their stuff like crazy lately and putting a few songs on the jukebox at work now and then too. Praise Chorus remains an instant Hells Yes song in the rotation. If anyone wants to join me you can get a ticket here - just use the promo word "CLARITY" to get the presale ticket. Otherwise you'll have to wait 'til Saturday at 10am to purchase.

Lastly, thought I'd touch on a few iPhone Apps that I'm really digging on these days...

Comic Touch: CT is a paid app that allows you to add comic notes to photos that you have in your library on your phone. I love messing around with it. Here's a photo I took with it a while back:

I Can Haz Cheezburger: It's basically a holding tank for tons of lolcatz etc. It's a free app and a nice way to pass a moment or two (thanks to hadrian_m for the recommendation).

Photoswap: Oh man, highly HIGHLY addictive and awesome. Episode 004 of the 619Bearcast spends a nice chunk of time talking about how fun this app is. Thank/Curse you pinner123 for introducing it. Basically you take a photo of anything, send that out, and you immediately get a random photo from another user sent back to you. If you like the photo you see you can send a reply and go back and forth with that user.  And yes, it goes there if you allow it to. And by there I mean, down there (or wherever yer dirty mind is wandering). A bit of a battery drain but a good way to pass some time with yer fellow iPhoners. Free!

Shakewise: Free app that gives you a quote randomly. If you shake your phone you get another. It's pretty simple but some of the quotes are pretty damn awesome. (example, just now - "To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men" Abraham Lincoln - Timely, no?)

Loopt: Free app that lets you share your location and what your up to (think sorta like Twitter) with people on your friends list. Loopt takes it further with Mix allowing you to share your location and other interests with people nearby turning Loopt into a cruise zone for horny iPhoners (no luck with that as of yet - heheh).

iSlots: Free app slot machine. Simple but enjoyable.

Pano: Free app that does a really good job of knitting up to 4 iPhone photos together to create a panorama shot. Here's one I did recently:

Twitteriffic Premium: This is the paid version of the free app that a lot of folks are using to keep up with their Twitters.  I  like the app a lot so I  bought the full version to support the folks who made it and to get rid of the ads.

Shazam: Must have free app for music fans.  S can hear a song and name it for you, it saves all the songs you have "tagged" so you can reference them.  It also links you to iTunes for purchase or YouTube to watch music vids.  Awesome!

Quip: Nice free app that allows you to share photos (since iPhone doesn't have MMS).

RjDj Album: I have the paid version but there is a free one as well.  boyshapedbox turned me onto this.  Basically, you put on your headphones (with mic) and the app turns everything it hears around you into ambiant music.  It's a trip and fun.  You can save the songs you make too!

Simplify Media: Free (when I got it) app that allows you to stream all of the music on your home computer (or music that your friends own and share with you) over the network on your iPhone.  This is huge for someone like me that only has a 4gig phone.  Great app (when you have wifi available).

Tip: Free app that very simply helps you figure out the tip you should leave.  You can tweak percentages, number of diners, etc.  Helpful!

That's the round-up.  What apps do you swear by?

concerts, music, protests, iphone, apps, rallies, things and stuff, marriage equality, prop8
