Okay, finally all caught up on LJ (that is to say, I've set aside about 35 posts to comment on!) so now I can post a few things. On Sunday I met up with
bearxxl and
bearringsd for a Disney run. It should be said that John and I are now completely lost. We've given ourselves over to a new god - I worship at the church of mouse now... What can I say? I never get tired of going, I feel great when I'm there, and I look forward to going back after I leave. I embrace that it serves as a temporary escape from my day to day doings and I leave it at that. I can be a kid again for a day and that's a special thing that I don't plan on ever letting go of.
We were there when the gates opened around 8am and we left the park a little after midnight...

The longest line we waited in was for Nemo and that was about 45 minutes. All other rides had 10/15 minute lines tops and many times we just walked right on. The only sad point of the day was that my sister was going to join us and she wasn't able to. I was really looking forward to her meeting more of my friends and I wish it had worked out. She has a pass too though so I'm sure we'll go together sometime soon.
bigsabu and
martini_tim met up with us for a few hours and that was awesome. They're so much fun to hang out with. We're already planning a gay movie night in Laguna with facials and cookies. Yaay!
Another item to be noted on this trip - I bought a fucking lanyard... Yup, I'm one of those dorky geeks who has a lanyard and puts pins on 'em now. I decided I shouldn't go it alone so I bought one for John as well and bought us both matching old school Mickey pins to get us started. He's gonna add his rainbow mouse ears pin that
pulsecub sent him too. So now that'll have a home.
One of the highlights of the day (on top of all the amazingly hot Dads in the park -
check Dad Safari for updates) was a total surprise. It was our ride on the Jungle Cruise. For you Disneyphiles you'll remember that back in the day the JC was made famous by having boat captains that would ad-lib and really make you laugh out loud as you toured the water ways and checkout out all the wildlife. In the last handful of years Disney has really clamped down on the ad-libs and I think the ride has suffered. The last 6 or so times I've gone on it the captain has rushed through, gunning the motor and muttering their lines so that they can barely be heard. Not so this time. Our captain Steven spoke primarily when the motor was idling, mixed the old script with quite a few new jokes I'd never heard (that were really funny), and did some major ad-libbing in a few spots. Me and John and Henry made sure to clap and shout so he knew we appreciated it - and he made mention to the "Guys in the back" a few times. When I got off the boat I went to his supervisor and commended him and then went to the City Hall and complimented him there too. I told the gal there that it reminded me of all the reasons I loved the ride to begin with as a kid and that even though I know they aren't supposed to ad-lib, that his doing so really made my day and that I wished it was the norm and not the exception. So yeah, that was really darn cool.
