This post could have had a crapload of Tube imbeds but I resisted and just put one two - the rest are links which I encourage you to click upon.
Last wiikend
intoutdoors came down for a visit and walked right into a Wii-Fest with
rrumm, me, and
bearxxl getting our Tennis and Bowling on. After the boys left I was showing Scott my Wii - er, I was showing him the different channels etc and we went online to the store to see if they had Contra available (love love that game). Alas, they did not. They did have Castlevania, though so I d/l'd and quickly remembered why it was such a pain in the ass and why I never beat the darn thing when I was a kid. Scott had Castlevania memories as well but his were of Castlevania IV for the SNES. I watched a speed run of it on YouTube and I gotta say, about 15 minutes in the graphics are really cool, the monsters and backgrounds are inventive and fun (paintings that attack, ghost dancers, fun house backgrounds, and a level where the entire game actually takes a physical turn) and they totally nod to the original game which gives me geek-wood again and again. So that was fun.
For you Scott (and any other geek):
Castlevania NES Speed Run Part 1Castlevania NES Speed Run Part 2Castlevania IV SNES Speed Run Complete (it's long but actually enjoyable to watch)
Whilst clicking around I thought I'd see if they had any cool Street Fighter II vids online... they didn't really. Just some combo vids. I did find one of someone doing
Guile's Touch of Death move which brought back memories. I could totally do this glitch move (forwards and backwards) and could also do Handcuffs and reset the machine. One of these days I'd like to get an SF cabinet with righteous joysticks (yes, there are different kinds and yes, it matters what kind you have) and buttons and have all of the SF games in it. That would be bliss.
In other game news, I noticed that there might just be a new Katamari game coming out for PS3 and Wii. That would be swell. It doesn't have a release date but the name is rumored to be "Beautiful Katamari"
In Meme news - I did the employee survey job finder thing and it just came up with "Burden on Society"...
And finally, here's a video that if you are on my
Twitter list you already know I was humming earlier today while driving back from lunch...

Ok, I've got one more vid - but this is for the hardcore geeks only. When I managed a video arcade one of the big games other than Street Fighter was Mortal Kombat. MK was hugely successful with players primarily because it was a great versus fighter. It was one of the first versus fighter to use live action characters (Midway started this off with NARC I think) and it also had the super gruesome Finshing Moves. After beating an opponent you were encouraged to "Finish Him!" and if you knew the button and joystick combos you could do anything from knocking their head off to ripping their heart out. Tipper Gore fucking flipped and we ended up with ratings for video games, a "culture of violence", Columbine, lack of personal responsibility and proper parenting blamed on video games etc. Anyhow, I loved the game and actually made my own strategy and move guides which I gave out for free to people who visited the arcade. It'd be fun if I still had one.
So, here's a great capture of the supreme reward ending from Ultimate Mortal Kombat which includes all Fatalities, Babalities, Animalities, and Friendships! You had no idea I was this big of a geek, did you?
