My desire, more sharp than filed steel, did spur me forth.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20): Your patron saint of the week is Beatrice Wood (1893-1998), whose association with surrealist artists and her bohemian life as a painter and actress earned her the title "The Mama of Dada." At the age of 92, she finished her autobiography, which was entitled I Shock Myself. Your first assignment, Gemini, is to do three things in the coming week about which you'll be able to say, "I shock myself." Your second assignment is to imagine that you're 92 and looking back with pride at the top ten smart things you did to shock yourself into a heightened state of awareness in the years between now and then.

And also from the newsletter:

Psychologist Carl Jung believed that all desires have a sacred origin, no matter how odd they may seem. Frustration and ignorance may contort them into distorted caricatures, but it is always possible to locate the divine source from which they arose. In describing one of his addictive patients, Jung said: "His craving for alcohol was the equivalent on a low level of the spiritual thirst for wholeness, or as expressed in medieval language: the union with God."

Tony and I hung out after work/before auditions. We killed some time at KMart, where we saw a Gladiator sword with history lesson:

The "history lesson" was printed on the back and was 2 paragraphs long.

Then we found some patio furniture downstairs, and in the guise of testing it out, sat and chatted for a few hours.

I saw a Spongebob Squarepants tie, and almost purchased it for planga, but then I thought I remembered him owning it already, so I did not. If I was wrong, hey, there are Spongebob ties at the 34th st KMart, planga!

Auditions were interesting. I got to Ripley-Grier, saw everyone, including Katie, Nick, and jayspec, who were also auditioning. Read for Feste.
Then I thought I should head over to the other auditions, and then couldn't find the room. I soon realized that this was because the audition was at one of the OTHER Ripley-Grier spaces, so I hopped in a cab and headed uptown (fortunately Tony had stuffed some singles in my pocket when I paid for coffee). Got there just in time.
I don't think they were terribly impressed by me; I did my monologue and they had me read one of the Shanachie's monologues, then I left and headed back downtown.
Got back in time to see both Letty and actress_in_nyc. Letty clearly had no idea who I was; admittedly Messiah was last year. actress_in_nyc and I chatted, though I'm afraid I distracted her from studying the sides, with my observations that the Smokey Joe's Café Logo looks a lot like the American Idol one:

Both neon, both with a little shmoo behind.

I think I did well at the 12th Night auditions, anyway. Got home and had dinner and went to bed.
