Staff Recommendations for the week of June 25th - August 1st, 2010

Staffer's Review: America tries his hand at Shakespeare poetry in this clever little fill. Even if England doesn't find it funny, the reader certainly does. Especially with all the wonderful references to England's ass and eyebrows.
- ★ - [part seven: fill] Can't Live Without 'Em [America, ensemble] -- It's America's turn to host Seder. It is going chaotically, like most family events.
Staffer's Review: I love this fic like stupid. America's narrative voice is just fantastic, and England is hysterically himself and also a Jewish Mother. I love the sense that the story gives of off big family gatherings where you don't always know who all the relatives are but you know you should know, and there's the sense of history between them that sits right with the "family" vibe of a Seder.
- ★★★ - [part seven: fill] Latvia's Night of Misfortune [Sealand/Latvia, Sweden/Finland] -- Latvia's meeting with Sealand's parents does not go well. Sealand himself isn't helping at all.
Staffer's Review: Poor Latvia. He really does try to make a good impression on Sealand's folks. What makes this fill really stand out is how everything seems to be conspiring against this goal; especially Sealand, who is far more intent in seducing his boyfriend in his parents' home. The awkwardness will be enough to have you shaking (see what I did there?) with laughter.

- [part seven: fill] Untitled [Germania, Rome, North Italy, South Italy, Germany, Prussia, ensemble] -- Germania ends up in the modern world, and things only get worse when Rome joins him.
- [part seven: fill] Untitled [America, England] -- AMERICA RUNS ON DUNKIN. What it says on the tin.
- [part seven: fill] Cristal Lattice [America, Canada, England] -- “He’s gone, Matthew,” Arthur whispers. For a moment, Matthew doesn’t know who he’s referring to.
- [part seven: fill] Corrected Vision [America, England, Sweden, Austria, ensemble] -- In another instance of England's magic misfiring, seven nations (Sweden, America, Canada, Austria, Estonia, Mongolia and Thailand) switch glasses. What happens next is... rather confusing. Can England fix this before Sealand gets scarred for life or Thailand takes over the world?
- [part seven: fill] How America Got The 2002 Olympics [America, England, Canada] -- England can't count on Canada's help in getting out of this headlock. Canada's only encouraging America.
- [part seven: fill] Combined Powers [America, England, US states] -- America believes that, united with his states, he can win independence. England is far less confident.
- [part seven: fill] The Christmas Without War [Sealand, England, Canada, Russia/America, China] -- Sealand's (or rather, Sealandic Angel's) present to the world is a happy Christmas for all.
- [part seven: fill] Wish [Hong Kong/Taiwan] -- Taiwan tries to do the pose. She doesn't get it right. But Hong Kong is patient.
- [part seven: fill] I Remember [Canada, Quebec] -- It's the anniversary of that day in October. Quebec has come to understand that he can't always gets what he wants, and that he had hurt others trying to.
- [part seven: fill] Understanding [America] -- America knows why they do it, but it still hurts.
- [part seven: fill] Because He Loved Him [Prussia, Frederick II (Gilbird)] -- Prussia needn't worry about Old Fritz not watching over him.
- [part seven: fill] Love is Blind [America/Canada] -- America realizes that he's in love with Canada and tries to confess this love in every way except a plain, "I love you." Canada, playing oblivious, is enjoying all this.

- [part seven: fill] The Merits of Imagination [America/Canada, Prussia, ensemble] -- Prussia was really starting to wonder if those two are doing it on purpose. Not that it matters.
- [part seven: fill] Bang [England, America, ensemble] -- England's frustration with America builds up and explodes with the bang of a gun.
