HBO series, True Blood "Mine"

I liked this show. It had the feel of the books, but a bit grittier. I like Sam Trammel as Sam Merlotte, I like Anna Paquin as Sookie (even with the gap between her teeth), and I really really liked the addition of Tara as Sookie's best friend but ...

But this week's episode has left a bad impression on me.

I said there are spoilers here, now.

The first Sookie masturbation scene was in character and well-done. The second was absolutely unnecessary. Masturbating on a vampire's front porch in full-view in the bright sunshine? What was that in aid of?

Sookie meeting the vampires at the old Compton place was excellent!

Dawn tying Jason up all day ... tasteless but in character for those two. I wasn't too happy with his attack on her but again, in character. Him having trouble achieving or maintaining an erection? Very much not. There's a reason the boy's as randy as a puck goat in Springtime and it's related to Sookie's "disability" and has everything to do with their grandfather but not much to do with their Grand-daddy.

As for Tara, I like her very much and I don't even so much mind her and Sam having sex but ... She told Lafayette and what is that about? Tell Lafayette a secret and it's going to be spilt where it will cause him the most pleasure. I'm also not so pleased that he's been turned into the worst cliche of a greedy, sleezy homosexual. Lafayette in the first book was flashy and flaming but he was also good-hearted and good. I don't remember what happens to him in later books though, so ... I don't know.

I just felt there was too much emphasis on sleaze that was being introduced by the television series for no good reason except ratings - to the deteriment of the characters involved - and not enough on story.

That's my opinion, anyway.
