Amusing phrase found in translation

The phrase in the Gaelic is "'s e na smaointean a bhuail ann an ceann mo bhràthar bu shinne"

Dahlzeil's gives it as "my eldest brother resolved" which I would translate as "chuir mo bhràthar bu shinne roimhe". However ... I've decided to translate the Gaelic more literally as it expresses the story idea MUCH better. I'm going with "My eldest brother was hit with the notion"

I like the idea of these ideas literally striking the brother in the head. It would explain SOOO much about his later (bad) choices. And it reminds me of a conceit I've had before of 'inspiration striking' with a two by four.
