dealing with amoxicillin/antibiotics

Wondering if folks have any suggestions for the best way to get through a 10 day dose of antibiotics [amoxicillin in this case, due to a root canal 2 days ago]. I take the pills every 8 hours. So far I've been taking 1 probiotic supplement during the day, often 4 hours after I've taken a dose, but am not sure if that's the best timing ( Read more... )

As long as your bowels are behaving, that schedule sounds fine. Whenever I'm on antibiotics I always have cranberry juice to counteract any yeast activity, and yogurt can also help to keep the digestive flora functional. Feel better!

Awesome, I've been having some concerns about my yeasties.

As for yogurt--do you have any suggestions as to many many times a day to take how about much, and when in the cycle to take?
Also--I once read nondairy yogurt was better for this experience--is that your experience?

I've never actually had nondairy yogurt - I suspect it would, in fact, be better. I think you can probably have your yogurt whenever.

Eat plenty of yogurt. It won't help much, but it will help some

As far as timing goes... well... it's only 10 days of pills. So long as you continue your pro-biotics/yoghurt for a week or so after the course of medicine stops, you should be fine. During the week and a half, though, the anti-biotic is working non-stop, no matter when you swallow the extra bugs...

Also, as far as timing goes... this is a little late... sorry.
