Second book of the Gentleman Bastards series, in which our protagonists find themselves out of their depth. I still like the characters and setting, and still wish the author could just tell the story in the order it happens. Sure, he wants to hide critical details about the schemes until they're used, but the flashbacks carefully omitted those details anyway. And that horrible, horrible prologue with its unbelievable cliffhanger; I know it's trying to be exciting, but I was so annoyed at being unable to tell if that scene happened before or after the first chapter that it took quite a few pages to really get interested in the story. So I suggest just skipping the prologue altogether (don't worry, it'll be repeated word for word in chapter 14). It ends on another unbelievable cliffhanger (threats to the life of the protagonist won't be taken seriously if you have five more books planned), and now we have two mysterious female characters we know nothing about.
