Alas, stripies.

I had mentioned that on the week-end viridis_ama and I had went to the zoo.  The new highlight of course being the baby lynxes, but we've got love to share with the other cats, too.

Last year the zoo's pair of Amur Tigers had cubs, a male and a female named Reka and Sarma respectively.  The adult male is kept in a separate enclosure, but the mum and cubs (they're almost the file size of adults, by the looks) are together and always good for some photos.

I'm not certain which of the 3 tigers this is, but I did photograph both cubs and mum... but their size is getting so similar it is hard to tell them apart!

Apparently by the Sunday the male cub, Reka was acting lethargic, and by Tuesday he had went into cardiac arrest and died.

The zoo believes it will be a couple weeks until they find out the exact cause, but a couple possible avenues are a feline virus passed by stray cats, or perhaps distemper from racoons, where the local population has had quite the outbreak of that disease.
