So in the last week while I was sick I got it into my head that I should start dabbling in
High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography.
After compiling the tools I needed, I took some sample photos of the pets and a candle holder, and fired up
Luminance HDR to see what I could do.
My camera makes things fairly easy by allowing me to creating a bracketing of +/-1 stop on either side of my target photo, theoretically giving me a good sampling for the HDR process.
But lo and behold, this process is not as simple (at least to me) as I would have hoped.
Based on 3 test sets, 1 of the dog, 1 of the cat, and one of the candle holder, I only really had some minor success with the candle holder.
Perhaps it is because the candle holder had the more interesting swirl of light from the venetian blinds that I like it, but even when I tried some of the other photos in my catalogue they just came out really muddy.
Methinks this is going to require more research!
