Take Us Out To The Ball Game
Until late Friday afternoon, I thought I was going to have to work all weekend to finish these optimization runs, which are time-consuming and boring. (Set up run, wait 20-40 minutes, export results, repeat). However, I managed to get enough done yesterday (and some of the leftover pieces I can do from the hotel, thanks to Remote Desktop Connection) that I don't have to work over the weekend. Everyone has been telling me that, as a baseball fan, I must go to a game at Wrigley Field, one of the few remaining "real" MLB ballparks still in use. There is only a 20% chance of rain today. Okay, Cheryl and I will take the train in to the city this morning -- there is a 9:20 AM super-express from here that takes only about 50 minutes, and with transit connections we should be at the park about an hour before the game -- and take a shot at the baseball. The Cubs' web site shows seats available in lots of places, so we figure we should be able to buy tickets at the ball park and avoid "convenience fees."
The Giants are not here, alas -- they don't come in until mid-July -- so I have no dog in today's fight, as the Cubs host the Cincinnati Reds. I will not be wearing the Giants fright wig above -- I would have brought it if the Giants were going to be in town -- but I will have my Croix de Candlestick stocking cap against the predicted cold weather, and also will be wearing my 2007 All Star Game polo shirt, which says "San Francisco" but isn't obviously a Giants shirt. (It was the only XXL polo shirt available at the Giants dugout store. Besides, I didn't really want to pay $105 for a polo shirt even if it was the right size, and that's how much the Giants-logo polos cost.)
