This afternoon after work, Lisa went to Walgreens and got MMR vaccinations. (Neither of us knows when we were last vaccinated, and with anti-vax sentiments fueling measles outbreaks, we decided to be safe rather than deeply sorry.) After that, we headed to the Gold Ranch at the California border where we decided to take a few shots at the >$1 Billion PowerBall lottery. (Spoiler: we didn't win.) The lottery sales lines were surprisingly short, and there were no lines for the self-service machines, which I appreciated.
We headed back toward Reno where we intended to do several shopping errands. It had been raining off and on from Reno out to Verdi and back, and I was running the wipers on the Rolling Stone intermittently. Suddenly, while driving through Verdi (not even very fast), the driver-side wiper flew off! Neither of us saw where it landed when I pulled over as soon as I could do so safely. As a temporary fix, Lisa moved the passenger-side wiper to the driver side, and then removed the passenger-side wiper arm so that it wouldn't keep dragging over the window.
After a brief drive back the way we'd came to see if we could find the missing wiper (we couldn't), we headed back into Reno, where we stopped at Walgreen's to get something that the Fernley store was out of. I then checked to see where the nearest O'Reilly Auto Parts was located, which turned out to be down Virginia Street, which was where we were going anyway. At O'Reilly, we bought two new wipers, and Lisa was able to replace both wipers (and put the passenger-side wiper arm back onto the RV). Now we have one spare wiper, although I hope we don't have this problem again. I reckon the issue with the wiper cost us around an extra hour.
Next was Cost Plus World Market, where I had a store credit about to expire. I was getting pretty tired, and Lisa suggested we put off a trip to WinCo for large-scale groceries until maybe this weekend, and I agreed. We did go to Raley's, which is never as busy as WinCo, to get a few things to keep us moving for a few more days. With luck the weather will be good enough for us to make a late-night/early-morning run to WinCo (whose parking lot looked rammed full when we passed by it this afternoon) over the weekend.
I got some take-out Chinese food at USA Parkway on the way home. The rain cleared as we left Reno, so it was relatively easy to unload our shopping this evening, and we collapsed. We got things done, but not as much as we had hoped. I'm glad Lisa was with me. She's far handier fixing things like the wipers. I wouldn't have even known where to start taking the wiper arm off, for example, whereas she just poked at it with her multi-tool and all was good.
I expect it will be easy to get to sleep tonight.
