On Saturday evening, while we were sitting on the porch watching the birds, we spotted a fire in the distance.
This photo makes it look like the fire is at the Imerys Minerals plant, but that'a a trick of the camera. It appeared to me to be over in Fernley's Fremont Street residential area.
As we needed something from Lowe's, we went over there and on our way back we could see the fire more easily, as could all of the other people who had stopped in Main Street Park to watch the fire across the tracks from the park.
It looked to us that nearly every piece of equipment that Fernley's fire department had was scrambled to attack this blaze. On our way home, we could see that there was one fire truck still at the station, possibly in reserve, or possibly due to not enough fire fighters. Fernley is a hybrid department, with a core of full-time paid fire fighters supplemented by volunteers.
This afternoon, on my way back from Grocery Outlet, I went down Fremont Street, and to my surprise I could see no obvious signs of the fire such as a burned-out house or something like that. I don't know anything else about this fire. Possibly it only was trees and brush that caught fire, and for the sake of the people living there, I hope that nothing else was damaged.
