My coach has designated Saturday as our long training day. By "our" I'm referring to the housemate, a tri clubmate and I and by "long training" I mean that we do a long ride, followed by a run. It's perfect riding weather in HK right now. The temperature range is between 20 to 24 degrees Celsius, the skies are blue and there is just enough sunlight. All you need for a ride is a wind vest over the usual riding gear and maybe some arm warmers at the start.

This year we have had zero typhoons come our way. Instead, we've been in the "outer rainbands" of typhoons afflicting the region. What this really means is lots of wind and rain, which really puts a crimp in the weekend training plans. It's not often that you find a vegetarian restaurant in meat-loving HK and in my last two years here I haven't been to any. Then this week came along and now I've been to two vegetarian places! One of these restaurants was the bookworm cafe on lamma island.

It's another beautiful weekend in HK and I spent the most of today on the south side. That wasn't my original intention though as I had planned to just go for a run and maybe a swim.

I had a really good ride this morning on the island. The conditions were perfect - there was a cool breeze, low humidity, low traffic and I felt good in the saddle. No surprises that I did my longest ride to-date this year, from Wanchai to Shek O and back. Almost 50 km or slightly more of riding. Last year I did two or three duathalons (run, bike, run) and hated them. Starting a race with a run is just wrong. My body needs a swim to wake up. So I swore duathalons off and have been fairly successful in sticking to this this year until today, where I did my first duathalon of the year and I'm glad I did it.
