Today is my dad's birthday. He would be turning 51! I can hardly imagine; He was 39 when he died.
I always feel bad because on these anniversaries I never realize it until the day is mostly over. My parents' wedding anniversary was earlier this month too.
I wonder how we would celebrate if he were here. Have a family movie night? Maybe not. That's what we did when we were kids, eleven years ago. Maybe now we'd all go out for dinner. Or maybe we would do what we all do nowadays, talk about what we'll do later. "Go out on the weekend or something."
I'd like to think we would share something with him that he really enjoys, like watching the 3 Stooges or old cartoons, humoring him except me, who shares his tastes and would genuinely enjoy them. Or go to some restaurant that he likes (Don Pablos in Inidiana, where they'd make him wear a giant sombrero), or do a family activity like bowling.  I hope if he were still alive we'd still share our Father-Daughter Dates, where he would snap at me in the car "don't you dare touch that handle" as I would tease him about opening my own door.

Well, Happy birthday, Dad. I'm thankful you were born and had the life you did. You're awesome.
