Pollan caught people's attention on The Daily Show the other day, stating that Americans get 20% of our calories from HFCS, and that we eat 240 lbs of sugars every year, and I can't make his math add up. Does anyone here know much about Halal meat? It has been my impression that Halal standards require that animals be raised humanely, free-range, drug-free, etc. I started questioning that a bit yesterday when I got a whole chicken for $4, and wondered how it could possibly be that affordable and still adequately ethically-raised ( Read more... )
