We got back from San Diego last night. Grabbed El Pollo Loco for dinner at something like 9:30. Need more sleep. Meanwhile, between wifi in the hotel and wifi in the convention center(!), I've been blogging the experience in two places, neither of them LJ:

Saturday at Wizard World LA was fun, and much more interesting than last year. Write-up and photos at K²R as usual.

Sunday got together with wayens, andrea_wot, zehntaur and gasean at Olive Garden for Wayne's birthday. Lots of catching up. Discovered alenxa and I are going to see Phantom of the Opera the same night as zehntaur.

Off to Wizard World Los Angeles tomorrow. At first alenxa wasn't interested and I wasn't sure -- we'd just been to WonderCon last month, after all. Eventually I figured I might as well go. Spent a good chunk of last night looking at travel websites. Accomplished 2 things:

• Arranged for a hotel to stay in San Francisco next month.
• Arranged for a back-up hotel for San Diego Comic Con, just in case we can't get a room through the convention desk.

( Hotels for SDCC are seriously scarce. )

With San Diego getting so crowded, I'm looking at trying to go to one or two smaller conventions that will still be fun, but a lot less hectic.

Anyone know any good scifi/fantasy/comic conventions in or near the Southern California area?

If you haven't already gotten your tickets for Comic Con, order them online ASAP. They have actually sold out of 4-day memberships!

They still have 3-day memberships (Thursday, Friday and Sunday) and single-day memberships, but who knows how long those will last?

I've been checking weekly at the Ahmanson Theater website to find out when individual tickets go on sale for Avenue Q. (alenxa and I saw the abbreviated version in Las Vegas last year, and it was great.) They have season subscriptions open, but they're in the form of shows A,B&C + your choice of shows D,E&F... and I'm only interested in shows A,D&E. ( ( Read more... )
