Chinese New Year!!!

Three more days till Chinese New Year…

I’ve bought all my new clothes, got myself a new bag. I have yet to find myself shoes though. Always tricky ‘cos of my enormous feet, I swear.

When you live in Singapore, AKA the city of tiny-footed women, it’s pretty darn hard to find ‘42’ shoes. My friends are all sizes six or FIVE. Argh. When we go shoe shopping, they can all just pick the shoe of the rack and try it on… I keep feeling like the ugly stepsister watching Cinderella put on her glass slipper.

For those of you who don’t know, Chinese New Year is basically the Chinese version of… well, New Year’s Eve. Except with a lot more tradition. The day of the New Year is also a pretty tricky thing, it’s based on the moon, so it’s never on the same day, or even in the same month consecutively…

Anyway, this month it coincides with Valentines day, on February the 14th. This could be a good or bad thing I suppose.

See, on of the main traditions is for the whole family to go out and visit our elders, grandparents, or great-grandparents if they’re still around, elderly uncles and aunts and so on. So we also meet our cousins and aunts and uncle as we sort of gather at the elder’s houses.

So this would be a prime time to introduce your girlfriend or boyfriend to the family? I dunnno…

Another tradition is to wear new clothes. Also, the clothes must be as bright as possible. Black used to be strictly off limits but some people wear it anyways, although not completely black from head to toe… Red is thought to be an extremely auspicious colour, so wear that if you want to look like a good grandchild. XD

My grandma was always really happy whenever I wore red. I’ll really miss her this New Year… :‘(

In other recent news, I’ve been staying over at my friend’s house since she’s been back from Australia… If it seems a lot of my friends have been coming back from Australia, I guess it’s because it’s the school holidays period, and quite a few of my friends study there…

I introduced her to Merlin, but we didn’t get around to Kuroshitsugi… *pouts* She’ll be back on the 24th and we’re going to go to the Eygyptian exhibit in the National Singapore Museum… :D Can’t. Wait.
