There is a disconnect in the way that adults use language from the way kids use language, In fact there is a disconnect between how every individual human uses language. As adults we have learned to interpret (kind of) what other people mean and can follow along with their slightly odd use of what they claim is the same language that you speak. ( Read more... )

Last weekend (March 30) Lesley, Kimball, and I tried to go to the Kite Festival (story summarized elsewhere). Before getting back on the Metro we stopped at the Smithsonian Castle for a bio-break.
