Name a character from one of my fandoms (let's confine this to Tolkien :)), and I'll give you either:

(a) three facts about them from my personal canon/fanon,
(b) a reason he/she sucks,
(c) a reason he/she is awesome,
(d) five things that never happened to that character, or
(e) five people that character never fell in love with and

writing and stuff

And because, as you so rightly say, I love him, and because I never know when to stop... Three (short) facts from my personal canon/fanon ( ... )

You really have to write your Gil-galad with a fiddle sometime. I love that.

Hey! You're almost at the end of 10 Letters. I am swooning at the idea of Gil and a fiddle.

Those choices make absolute sense based on your characterization. (Cringing that in my canon, I intend to try to motivate how he might become involved with Elrond. Think it will take some work.)

Your description of Oropher here sounds like he could stand in the face of canon.

Isildur - why I like to write elves.

There's so much Elrond/Gil-galad out there it's almost canon *g*. When I had to write them for the swap, Larian and Ilye were inundating me with good fics to try and get me in the mood. For myself I prefer it if people write them as more or less equal in age (which they were ) rather than the mature king and the young herald, and it's easy to imagine that when the twins were younger, the king would have had less to do with them. I just can't --- right from day one, Gil saw Elrond in a certain way, and nothing could change it. In the scene where Gil was drunk and Elrond was helping him to bed, I had a fancy to have them kiss - would have made wonderful morning after complications - but Elrond refused point blank, and for the length of Doubt I never won an argument with him, lol.
