Taken from
red_lasbelin Name a character from one of my fandoms (let's confine this to Tolkien :)), and I'll give you either:
(a) three facts about them from my personal canon/fanon,
(b) a reason he/she sucks,
(c) a reason he/she is awesome,
(d) five things that never happened to that character, or
(e) five people that character never fell in love with and
Galadriel. She’s a girl, and his aunt. So - against his nature and against the law.
Elrond. Not a big difference between them in age (what’s 80 years to an elf?) but he became the twins' guardian after Maedhros handed them over, which sort of set the tone for their future relationship. To begin with Elrond was the bane of his life, a trial, endless trouble, so once he settled down they were past the point where Gil could ever see him in a different, more romantic light, in fact to do so would have felt like a terrible abuse of authority. He was always just Elrond, his cousin of whom he was very fond - in a wholly platonic way.
Círdan. He was a small child when he was sent to the Falas and placed in Círdan’s care. As is the way with children, he soon lost memory of his real father, who had spent little time with him, and Círdan became a stern but fair father figure. This is the person who brought him up, had him educated, gave him his basic moral code… disciplined him when he did something wrong - in other words, this was the only parent he knew.
Oropher. Well for a start, Oropher was overtly homophobic (as unfortunately is sometimes the case with traditionalists). Plus he was the opposite of most of the things that were central to Gil - he was insular, hasty, unable to compromise, not interested in anyone’s views or problems but his own. (I might want to go hide from the Oropher fans on my flist)
Isildur. Why not? Because his tastes never ran to married Men with scraggly beards, who only bathed approximately twice a year, never read for pleasure and were deeply prejudiced against everyone not of their own kind.

He liked being a warrior, liked the responsibility of leading a war band. Looked after his men as though they were family, sorted out their personal problems in a no nonsense kind of way. Being a king meant he had to develop distance, it also meant there were no more orc chases, no chance of taking on a dragon as certain other members of his family had. Not one to complain, but when the First Age ended and he was busy building up a kingdom, he quietly missed the simpler life.
Loves music. Loves singing too. Is one of those rare elves who does not have a particularly good singing voice - he can carry a tune but mainly he’s enthusiastically loud. He can play the fiddle quite well, though it took him ages to learn.
Loves the sea. He can spend hours watching it. His idea of perfect relaxation is a walk along the beach with half an eye on what the tide might have carried in. He likes company at such times :D

Your description of Oropher here sounds like he could stand in the face of canon.
Isildur - why I like to write elves.
