Moonlight Secrets

{ Chapter 1 }

Don’t get close to a vampire…

It was early in the morning and it was a pretty normal day. The bright sun brought a warm feeling to everyone. Years had passed since that terrible night in my life, when I felt all alone because my parents left me, and it has been years that I met that kid-who vanished through the darkness of the night; it has been thirteen years to be exact.

I felt a sudden chill come up my spine. I hate 13. I’m afraid of it. Now, it makes me wonder if I’ll continue living this normal life… or it will start being messed up now.

“Hey, Hika-chan, walk faster! You still walk like a turtle,” my stepbrother, Daiki Arioka, whined as he pouted his lips.

He smiled as he kept up with him. “Okay~” he said with his ready plastered smile on his lips.

“We’re classmates, right?” Daiki asked with a wide smile.

He made a face as if he was against it. “Of course. You changed your schedule just to be with my class,” he shrugged.

They were really close, they were like real brothers and best friends at the same time. Both of them are in the second year in a university. It was an elite school. Luckily, the Arioka’s are very rich, enough to send them both in an elite school. They still wore a uniform even if they are already college, it was a white suit, with a black long-sleeved polo inside and matched with, still, a white pants. Yes, exactly as what you think. They rather looked like a prince. Not to mention, it was a school exclusively for boys.

He looked around and stopped for a while. He felt as though someone from afar was watching him. “Hika-chan?” Daiki interrupted him.

“Have you seen someone that was watching us, Dai-chan?” he asked.

Daiki just knotted his forehead. “No, it must be just your imagination…”

He continued walking and tried convincing his self that he was just imagining things. He threw another glance at the tree which he was looking before. Yet, he really found no one.

He shivered as the cold winds greeted him as he went outside their school. He was going home late that night, he was the school’s president after all. They had an orientation for the freshmen, so let he Daiki go home first.

As he was standing on the school’s gate, someone walked near to him. As if he was hypnotized, he couldn’t take off his eyes from him. It was dark and he can’t see his face.

“How are you, Hikaru?” the stranger asked, his voice was deep, it sounded… lonely.

A cold breeze of wind passed by unto them. It made him nervous.

I’m scared… I’m scared… his insides kept on telling him. I’m scared… I’m scared…

He remembered those feelings. The feeling of being scared. It was thirteen years ago… in the cemetery, in front his parent’s graves.

He didn’t understood why he felt that way this time. He swallowed and asked, “W-who are you?”

He saw the guy smile, for he can only see his lips. “I’m someone who once said I’ll be there for you,”

Someone who would always be there for him? Who was he exactly?

“I-I don’t know you…” he managed to utter. After he said that, he walked as fast as he could.

“Hika-chan? Why do you look so nervous?” Daiki asked as soon as he opened the door for him.

He immediately went in and sat on the sofa. “D-Dai-chan… I’m scared…” he said as he looked at him. He was still shaking, his voice was even weak, it was just like a whisper when he said that. “I’m scared…”

Daiki went to him and hugged him. He hugged back tightly.

“What happened, Hika-chan?” Daiki asked, while looking at him deeply in the eyes.

“I met a strange guy from our school’s gate. He asked me how I was and…” he swallowed. “H-He said he was someone who once said to me that he will be there in my side,” he continued, as he looked down and trying to decipher the words he said.

Daiki was silent for a while. He looked at him, questioning why he fell silent. Yet he was surprised to see that he was in a deep thought. “D-Dai-chan?” he interrupted him.

Daiki looked at him with his eyes, narrowed. He tried to smile but it appeared rather a forced one.

“D-Dai-chan…? What’s wrong?” he asked once again.

Daiki swallowed and looked at him nervously. “H-Hika-chan, do you believe in vampires?”

Vampires. It was said they had taken over the world twenty-five years ago, they haven’t been born yet. But, it was said they vanished one day. All of them. That made him wonder why, for it was stated they were immortal, someone who will continue to live forever. It was even recorded in the history. Do they still exist now? No, he didn’t think so. “No…”

“You better not. But, Hika-chan, don’t get close to a vampire…”

He laughed nervously, trying to brush away the fear. “W-what are you saying, Dai-chan…”

“You wouldn’t believe me if I say I had met a vampire, right, Hika-chan?” Daiki said. “It was the night I had met you… on the cemetery.” He continued.

He couldn’t believe what he heard. Daiki had seen a vampire? “Don’t scare me like that, Dai-chan…”

“He was a tall man, must be in his middle thirties. He was wearing a black cloak…” but Daiki continued. “That’s when I met you…”

“What are you guys doing?” their mother came in the living room. “It’s already late, you two should sleep by now.”

“Hai.” They both agreed and started walking to their room.

“Pssst!”

“Who’s there?” he asked. A gust of wind blew, as if whispering to him. He felt as though the hair on his neck stood up. As soon as he felt that, he knew he was in danger. He needed to run away from that place…

Someone started walking unto him, his face was a bit blurred. The place was familiar. It was a cemetery and he was on the front of his parent’s graves. There was smoke everywhere and there were lighted candles. The light in the old lamppost started turning on and off. Making him frightened even more.

“W-who… who are you?” he asked to the stranger guy.

“I’ll be there for you starting from now on,” the guy simply said, still making its way nearer to him.

He turned around and ran away from guy. He ran as fast as he could. He continued running yet he was still on the same place. He looked around and he was still on the same ground he was standing before. The leaves of the tree started shaking and falling, must be because of another blow of the cold air. The coldness of it pierced unto his skin, making its way to his flesh. He shuddered. The person was still there, looking at him.

“Why are you running away, Hikaru?” the guy asked. “Don’t be afraid… I’m a good guy,” he continued.

His knees had gone weak, his mouth dried up as he started panting for air. The smoke started to get heavy and it filled the cemetery. The guy vanished unto it…

“N-No!!!!!!” he screamed.

“Wake up! Wake up, Hika-chan!” Daiki tried to shake Hikaru.

After seconds, Hikaru opened his eyes. His eyes were mirrored with fear, he was panting and beads of sweat were forming on his face. He hugged Daiki tightly.

I’m scared… I’m scared… the voice started whispering once again.

“You had a nightmare again?” Daiki asked with a concern in his voice, as he was handing a glass of water. “I’m glad you didn’t lock your room.”

He accepted the glass of water, his hands were shaking and it was weak, thus the glass fell to the floor. “D-Dai-chan, I had a very scary dream…”

“Was it the scene from the cemetery again?” Daiki asked as he sat down beside him, ignoring the broken pieces of glass scattered on the floor.

He slowly nodded.

“It has been years since you stopped having those nightmares…” Daiki said as he caressed his back. “Why should you have that dream again now.”

“Sleep now, Hika-chan.” Daiki said once again. “I’ll be here in your side until you fall asleep…”

He slowly laid back to the bed and closed his eyes. Daiki was still on his side, so, maybe, he was safe…

Don’t get close to a vampire… you’ll have nightmares.
