Caution: Heart at Risk!

{ Chapter 5 }

Chinen smiled bitterly as he remembered Daiki. He missed him so much. Back when they were in Hawaii, he left early in the morning and Daiki was still sober. He only left a note saying “Thank you. I’m back to Japan.” But he wasn’t in Japan at all. He went back to his parents, to California. His mom called him that his father was hospitalized. Hearing that, he immediately went home.

He bit his lower lip while watching his father on the ICU. Seeing him pains him so much. He was a daddy’s boy. He was always been spoiled by him.

“Dad didn’t want you to know, Chii,” his older sister, Saya, said. “He wanted you to be happy while having your vacation in Hawaii. He knew you were broken hearted.”

“How long did you all hide this from me?”

“Quite some time,” his mother answered as she was looking at him with sad eyes. “He already had some heart attacks but he didn’t want you to know. His last fatal attack was the day after you got in Hawaii.”

That was the day his father called him when he was still with Daiki. He wanted to curse his self now. He was having so much fun not knowing a thing what happened to his family and to his father.

“He didn’t want to worry you. He didn’t want to see you suffer.”

“That’s so unfair, Mom. Do you really don’t see me as part of the family anymore? That you even had to hide Dad’s situation from me? I’m his son. I’m your son. But why do I feel like you are all isolating me?”

“We just don’t want you to suffer again, Chii. We saw how much you suffered when grandma died. You didn’t almost cope up from that.”

“That’s why we decided to agree with your father to hide this from you, Chii. We don’t want to see you suffer anymore.”

“I’m not numb, Onee-chan! I’m just a person that’s why it’s always expected that I will get hurt. But I’m a grown up now. I wasn’t like that kid who cried so much in pain that almost wanted to die. I’m old enough to take care of myself. I’m old enough to accept failures and defeat. I know how to handle them all. If you only gave me a chance.”

His sister and mother just looked down. A sign that they knew they were mistaken.

“We just don’t know what to do anymore, Chinen. We were torn in between the concern for Dad and taking care for your sake.”

“Sorry, Chii.” His mom said.

He hugged them. All his life, he thought they weren’t taking care of him. Now, he was so happy to hear them say all that.

“I’m sorry too. I’m sorry I was so hard-headed. I’m so sorry I was a spoiled and I was only thinking for myself.” He said.

His mom slowly caressed his hair and unto his back. They are all happy now; the only last thing needed it to make his father wake up.

“Dad, get well soon,” he said, behind his facial mask.

His voice started to trail off when he said that. His father wanted him to be tough. His mom made him tough. So he needed to be tough no matter what happens. Maybe, the only time he got weak was all because he fell in love. They day he fell in love with Daiki, he became weak. Tears started to fall on his eyes now that he remembered Daiki once again. He longed to be with him once more.

“Dad, do you remember when you said that someone’s going to take care of me soon? I met him. But that wasn’t true. He didn’t take care of me. But you know what, Dad? I fell in love with him. I love him so much.” He wiped the tears on his face. “And I wasn’t wrong when I fell in love with him. Because I loved him so much to the extent that I let him go. He loves someone and that’s not me. He wasn’t mine from the very start.”

“I didn’t blame myself that what I did wasn’t right when I left him, Dad. Even once, he didn’t love me. But, I was already happy loving him and that was already enough for me.”

Yes. He will still love that guy. He stayed by his father’s side until the doctors told him to leave the ICU.

Everyday, that’s what he does. He won’t leave the ICU until the doctor’s would tell him so. He wanted to be with his side. Because he was afraid that one day he will be gone.

“Chii, take a rest now,” his sister said to him, her hands gently caressing his hair.

“No, I need to be here with Dad.” He said.

“But, you haven’t slept for two days already...” his sister insisted.

“Don’t mind me. I’m fine.”

“No, you’re not fine.”

He lifted his gaze and surprised to see no other than Daiki. They haven’t met for weeks but at that moment, even though he was tired, his heart still recognized him.

“What are you doing here?”

“You, what are you doing to yourself?”

“I’m taking care of my father.”

“Well, now, you’ll have to start taking care of yourself as well.”

Daiki held him on the arm but he pushed him away. “Leave me alone, Daiki. I’m tired and I don’t have the strength to fight with you.”

“I’m not here to fight or argue with you. I knew what happened, your family told the Nakajima’s and Yuto told me about it.”

“Chii, just go with Daiki.” His mother insisted. Then she looked at Daiki. “Take care of our Chii.”

“That’s what I would do.” Daiki wrapped him on the arms. “Let’s go, squirrel.”

They were already in a nearby restaurant. Daiki told him to eat, but he wasn’t eating at all. Instead, he just drank a cup of coffee.

“What are you really doing here?” he asked Daiki once again.

“I’m here for you. Is that hard to believe?” Daiki answered.

He swallowed hard. “You came here all the way from Hawaii?” he asked, unable to believe.

Daiki beamed a smile. “Yeah.”

He cocked his head. “W-why?”

“I think you should know the reason.”

“For God’s sake, I don’t have a clue why you are here, Daiki!” he snapped. “What do you need? I already left you and our vacation has long ended.” He pointed out.

Daiki looked at him with a serious face and sighed. “That’s it. You left.”

“So what-“ He wasn’t able to finish what he was trying to say for he was met with Daiki’s lips. His eyes narrowed. Daiki was there, kissing him..

He blinked when he realized Daiki stopped the kiss and looked at him. “I’m here to return that..”

He swallowed again. That was just it. The kiss.

“Leave me alone.” He said. “Go back to Japan or wherever you want. Just.. leave me.” He said in a crooked voice. Tears began to form in his eyes but he sighed and stopped it from falling.

Daiki’s face showed disagreement. “N-no. I am already here.. with you.. Don’t make me go away anymore, Chii.” His voice somewhat sounded as though he was pleading.

“I.. I’ll take care of my father. I won’t have time for you and your silly games.”

“But-“

“Just go!” he exclaimed, his voice was louder this time.

“I-Is that what you really want?” Daiki asked as he stood up.

“Yes.” He answered firmly.

Then he heard Daiki walked away. He looked at him, and saw him paused for a second. “Go.” He said. Daiki resumed walking.. And his tears started falling.

“I-I love you, ‘Dai-chan’..” he whispered.

Damn it. He didn’t want the kiss. He wanted his love.
