transitioning to the next project, how do you do it?

I’m getting my mystery novel ready for cold readers (keep your eyes peeled for that post - one day) so I’m thinking about what comes next. I write daily. And by writing I mean writing or editing, not planning or outlining. And by daily I mean I write on the “thing” I’m writing, which for the past year and a half has been my mystery. When I send it off to cold readers I have to stop.

So what do I do?

I’m currently playing around with an idea I’ve had for a while about a planet over taken by violent storms. I centers on the crew of a weather station and a group/tribe of people who have left ‘civilization’ who live near the Ob. (I posted a bit of this last week when the Ob was called the Trip. ;)

But I have other ideas too. I decided in fact to play with the Weather Planet, as I call it, because I’m thinking of using short stories as a way of strengthening the multiple POVs I’d like to use. But I have a couple other ideas in various stages too, including wanting to write a sequel to my mystery. (Although that feels like getting way ahead of myself.)

Anyway… looking for thoughts, experiences, feeling, etc.
