Busy,,,,,

It's been a busy few days!

Friday - Mr Cee had the day off and we went to the Wallace Collection to see the Frans Hals: The Male Portrait exhibition. 12 stunning portraits by the same artist over the course of his career (which was very long - he lived until he was in his early 80s).  We loved it and for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic we went on the London Underground. We were nervous, but almost everyone was wearing masks (the 20/30 years olds just don't seem to want to wear them - there weren't many about!).

Under the cut for a couple of the portraits I liked.

All photos get larger with a clicky

This is the most famous portrait of course - The Laughing Cavalier (1624). Not a cavalier of course, but thought to be a cloth merchant. The brush strokes on this painting are amazing. The details are stunning up close.

Portrait of a Man 1630 - the moustache and beard is just amazing on this portrait. So realistic!

Pieter van den Broecke 1633. I love the hair and the lace - a few loose brush strokes show so much.

Willem Coymans1645 - a cocky man in a hat LOL! I loved this pose.

Jasper Schade 1645 - I love the expression on this one and the frame is amazing.

We've been to the Wallace Collection before, but we found new stuff! More under the cut -

Shooooooooooes! Tiny, exquisite, and made of the finest leather.

Love this sculpture

Is a horsey!

These are made of wax - it's astonishing that these have survived since the 1600s. They are under a special cover you have to lift up and turn on a light as they are so light-sensitive and so they are hard to photography but I loved them.

After we'd wandered around we had an afternoon tea! Not the best we've had, but it was tasty :)

Today is Mr Cee's special day:

This was given to him after we'd had a very delicious brunch at a local restaurant with Youngest Cee and GF(P) which was lovely. It contained a slice of red velvet cake. Eldest Cee has called - we've had champagne and smoked salmon for dinner - he's had nice presents and is happy. It's been good.

My friend is still in hospital so we have been going over to her house and feeding Boris. I think he's slightly unsure what's going on, but he's coping very well. He's very cute and getting lots of cuddles.

We're going in to visit my friend in hospital tomorrow. So far they've done all kinds of tests and the only conclusion they've come to is that she doesn't have Covid19 and she doesn't have a blood clot and she doesn't have pneumonia. Her chest X ray was clear on Friday and they've scheduled another one for Monday so she's staying there at least until then. I've brought home some of her laundry so we can take freshly laundered clothes in for her tomorrow. It's very frustrating not knowing why she's so unwell :(

I have questions:

19. How do you identify spiritually (do you follow a religion, what do you think about soul/spirit, etc.)?
I'm an open minded believer in science.......
20. Do you prefer your nails long or short?
I file my nails down when they start to get in the way of my typing - they are really strong and tend to grow very quickly. The only thing that weakens them is wearing nail polish, so I limit how often I wear it.

21. What are your favorite smells?
22. Do you still use a radio or just use your phone/computer for music?
23. What kind of socks do you prefer to wear?
24. Do you have any family heirlooms?
25. Are there any musicians you didn't like at first but grew on you?
26. Is there anything you used to love but now dislike?
27. Your favorite place to be aside from your home?
28. What is your favorite kind of tea?
29. Any old home remedies you use when you're sick?30. What level of brightness do you usually keep your phone at?
