Tech woes.....

I've been busy!
Yesterday was a warm-ish day and I spent the morning sorting out my summer/winter clothes and putting my bellydance costumes into those vacuum bags to store them in smaller spaces (they are taking over!).  It was very satisfying.

In the afternoon I spent some time doing some stuff for the bellydance mentor - fiddly stuff, but it was good to get a grip on another new program!

In the evening we went on a Nordic walk which was fun. We managed to get up to some good speed and it was a good workout.

Yesterday also meant that I took delivery of an iWatch 7 which I'd decided to treat myself to as an early birthday present. It took a while to set it up and it is definitely not as intuitive as the Fitbit I still have. However - it was fun to take it out on the Nordic walk alongside my Fitbit (same wrist) and it was very accurate for the steps as both the watches recorded virtually the same route and the same step count.

Today we had Tai Chi first thing and I wore just my iWatch for that as it seemed to work OK. It was nice to see that there's a Tai Chi exercise workout set up ready to start tracking. It worked, but I was starting to get a little bit frustrated with how it tracks workouts etc as it doesn't give much information regarding heart rate and heart zones compared to Fitbit. It also doesn't give you much information about sleep patterns, and already I was noticing that I needed to recharge it half way through the day (very unlike Fitbit which lasts about 6 days without a recharge).

(continued under the cut as it's got long)

Anyway I thought I'd persevere, so after spending the afternoon doing more mentor admin work, we went to Pilates this evening. I completely forgot to start the tracking of Pilates on my watch, but Fitbit lets you add an exercise afterwards and just remembers all the breakdown of how you've done and adds it into your workout log in the App. So after we'd been thoroughly stretched at Pilates I came home and attempted to do just that on the Apple watch.

One of the annoying things about the iWatch is that the watch app on the phone let's you muck about with how the watch face looks and what you can see on the watch. BUT then you have another App called 'Fitness' that tracks workouts and stuff, and then again you have 'Health' that let's you add workouts and edit things.  On Fitbit that's all in the one App on your phone (and also recorded on your watch so you can see it).

It took me ages to work out how to add the workout, but I duly added Pilates to my workout log only to find that although if I look at it you can see how my heartbeat rose during the lesson, that isn't added to the Pilates workout. This is despite all the apps being produced by Apple - they just don't talk to each other, so all I have is that I've done Pilates for an hour with virtually no information about it.  If I add a workout to Fitbit it uses the data from the watch to add the information into the workout log.  All the information - calories I've burned, whether my heart rate has got into the cardio range, what percentage of my workout was fat burn appears if I add it afterwards.

It's the same with sleep - all the times I've been sitting down today it's thought I was asleep (!), and although I can edit out those instances, it doesn't tell me the quality of sleep or if I've been restless. Fitbit does that automatically and I get a breakdown of how long I've been in REM sleep, light sleep and deep sleep or awake. It's much more comprehensive and much easier to edit if it's decided I've had a nap and in fact I've been reading a book with a cat on my lap (so I've not been moving much LOL!).

Checking online most of these irritations can be dealt with, but I have to buy more Apps to do that and some of them only give that much information if I pay for a subscription!

Overall - I'm really disappointed in my Apple iWatch, so much so I'm going to sent it back. It's cost me nearly twice as much as my Fitbit, and doesn't do half of what I want it to and what I use a Smartwatch for. It won't even display how many steps I've done on the watchface unless I choose a watch face that's so small and complicated I can hardly make out what it's displaying.

I'm really surprised at how poor iWatch is in comparison to Fitbit. The interface is clunky and you shouldn't need to have several Apps that you have to go to in order to find out information. The only redeeming feature is that it's more compact on my wrist as I have small wrists, so my Fitbit is a bit large on my wrist.

Ah well - you can't win them all!  I'll return it to the local Apple store at the weekend.... It's a good job I've kept all the packaging!

I have questions:
20. What is the craziest thing you’ve seen happen at your workplace?
I used to work in radio Drama. It's amazing what the studio managers used to use for sound effects when we recorded a play. Kissing sounds are from kissing hands, a dramatic stab into a body is usually done with a knife and a nice Iceberg lettuce LOL!

21. Would you rather read a book or listen to the audiobook?
I'd rather read a book. I like to have the characters in my head and hear their voices there. I am often very disappointed with audiobooks - mostly because I can hear a fluff or edit or a page turn which takes me out of the story (probably because I used to work in radio).
