Monday, Monday (la, laaaa, la-la-la-laaaaa)

There was no more snow overnight, and the temperature went up then down, so we now have a layer of ice under the snow. It's been gently snowing all day and my poor little snowdrops are now completely buried *sadface*

We've probably had around 10cm/4" here, but it's very localised - the bellydance mentor lives around 20 miles from my house and they've not had any snow there at all!

This morning I started the day with a stretch routine which was led by Dave (the neuromechanics coach).  It was a nice way to loosen up and start the day. At 10am I had my Portraiture course - this week we moved from the Renaissance to the Tudor and Elizabethan era. It included lots of symbolism for Kings and Queens, and lots of realistic settings for other people. We looked at the different ways men and women were depicted - which of course meant lots of lovely expensive fabrics for the women, but with piety, purity and beauty being the focus. Often women's portraits were made for men to look at - especially if they had died in childbirth or had just got married. Whereas men were shown in manly stances (think Henry VIII and his spread legs) or showing their employment status (lots of money, books or scientific stuff around). Half term is next week, so we won't have a session then.

This afternoon I braved the garden glass studio to finish some Etsy orders as I don't want to miss the deadline. My little studio heats up quite quickly, althought it was only 0.5C in there to start with. I had to sort out the ice in my glass grinder (the water in there cools the glass edges are ground) as it wasn't going to work until that was thawed out.

Later we have Tai Chi, but in the meantime there's a question:
8. What does it mean to you to be spiritual? A question that I find difficult to answer as I don't think I am very spiritual. I have a friend who is a great fan of the spirituality of crystal healing and reiki etc. I suppose she would consider herself spiritual, but I don't really think that's for me. I think I'm a bit too analytical and sceptical to be spiritual. Even the 'chi' of Tai Chi I find interesting, but I find myself thinking about biological systems when the teacher is explaining the channels around your body....

*day 320 since lockdown 1. Tier 5 full lockdown. Latest news is now they think the AstraZeneca vaccine isn't very effective against the South African mutation in the SE of England which has sparked some concern. Numbers for my area haven't been updated since Friday. No news about when full lockdown will end.
