Ah yes ... its finally here. Superbowl Sunday. And Im betting Im probably one of the few who reads this who actually cares.
Thing is, Im not sure whether the game itself is going to be good or not. I dont think necessarily that the Giants is the best of the NFC. Although, heres an interesting stat I heard a little while ago on Mike & Mike. The Giants led their game in Week ... er, 17? ... for a significant amount of time for the game ... about the same amount as all the other teams combined. That makes me wonder if the Giants really are the best opponent for the Pats since, for about 3/4 of that game, the Giants actually had the Pats' number.
Having said that, Id MUCH rather be watching the Packers play the Pats. I just think history versus a guy who, if he werent Brett Farve, probably would have been history a few years ago would have made for more compelling football. But, the Giants won three straight road games to get to the Superbowl, so good for them. We will see how the game is.
The latest Spygate allegations, that the Pats taped the Rams walkthrough the day before that Superbowl (36, I think?) ... I dont know if its true, but I sure hope it isnt. Its a shitty thing to do, and as much as I like the Pats -- and have since 94 when we moved to Boston when they werent the hot stuff they are now, so no calling me one of those bandwagon Pats fans -- I was kind of disappointed when the Jets taping came out. I dont know how much these tapes actually help the team, but I dont buy the people who say that their legacy is tainted cause they cheated.
I mean, at the end of the day, the players still had to play the games, practice, travel, etc. I dont compare it to, for example, shooting up with 'roids. I think thats MUCH worse, personally, cause thats an attempt to gain an unfair competitive advantage over your opponent. And while the tapes *might* give a competitive advantage ... I just dont see it as something as severe? But maybe thats hypocritical. Maybe cheating is cheating. I just think theres cheating, and then theres CHEATING.
Anyway, theres a lot of TV and radio. ESPN is doing special editions of Mike & Mike and The Herd, the former on both TV (ESPN2) and radio, and the latter on radio that I can hear through the computer. Then theres NFL Countdown on ESPN. Then the Fox 'official' pregame show starts around noon local time, then the game, then the postgame show ... that will go until about 8:15 pm, although it will probably go long. And Mike Tirico is doing a postgame show on ESPN radio as well, and thats supposed to start about 8 pm local time.
*head explodes*
And then, of course, theres the commercials, which, some years, are better than the game itself. I hope there are some good ones this year. Of course, this means no fast forwarding the game, so I cant time fold like I do with most other TV I watch.
So, yeah, Im pretty much planted today. I was going to make pasta sauce, but I realized I dont have enough as much wine as the recipe calls for, and my meat isnt cooperating anyway. I guess I took it down too late for it to be defrosted. Then again, Im feeling so lazy today, I probably wouldnt want to go out to get the other stuff Id need to make it anyhow. So Ill eat something here. Its a bizarre mix from the freezer, though ... spanikopita, tater tots, and vegetables. But I have some yogurt and stuff in the fridge. I guess I could order pizza, but delivery would probably take three hours cause its Superbowl Sunday, so everybody and their mother will be ordering pizza. Cheese sticks -- essentially pizza with no sauce -- from Papa Johns sounds REALLY good right now. Hmm.
Guess thats about it. They finally stopped talking about Spygate and are actually doing tape of guests from this week. I wish theyd just get to the game breakdown ... you know, the *interesting* stuff and not all the media hype? Bleah.
PS: I know, I know ... screw my Pats. =P
