Today Steve and I went to a Borders that is closing its doors in about 8 days. We got some really good deals on books, but it was kind of sad. The employee who rang us up seemed pretty down, and the place was just raveged. They were selling absolutely everything there, from the fixtures to the pictures on the wall. They are not closing the main Borders that Steve and I shop at, so I am very happy about that. Borders helped me get through tough times.
Through my stints of unemployment that I have had while living up here, one thing that Steve and I would do on the weekends would be to go to Borders and pick up a book for me to read, and have coffee. I would even hang out there sometimes during the week to do my job searches or just hang out and drink coffee. It was nice for me to have the distraction of a book while I wasn't working. Lets face it, Steve and I haven't really made a ton of friends since we moved here, and anyway most people work during the day. Being by myself would also get me depressed about they situation I was in. So I really looked forward to our Borders visits and getting my new book for the week. We don't go as often anymore now that I am working and we moved away from that Borders, but we still go every once in a while and I still really like it. I just don't really like the feel of Barnes and Noble. We have some smaller book stores around, but most of them are used book stores, which is fine-but hard to find specific titles. I am glad I will still have my old Borders to go to.
So some of the books I picked up was a mystery novel, part of series I started last year or the year before, a Ray Bradbury book and a Terry Goodkind book. I saw a couple others that I wanted, but really I need to finish the book that I have-a John Green young adult novel, and I want to read The Hunger Games. Plus the next novel in the Songs of Fire and Ice series is coming out this summer I think. Oh! Also the new Charlaine Harris in May. I need to get cracking on these books. I guess you know how I will be spending the rest of my evening. :)
