And why SHOULDN'T he kiss a Wookiee? *g*
You know, the most interesting bit about finding out that Han Solo was supposed to have a Wookiee wife has been reading the comments. Also in other places. There are certain people who are surprised and shocked by this, which surprises me (plus I find it kind of cute), since, scifi. Lots of weird creatures. Large fanbase. Have they never had a reason to think about which forms of interspecies sex are okay and which aren't and why?
I mean, think of it this way. Superman is an alien, and nobody minds him with Lois. Nightcrawler is blue and tailed and sometimes furry, and nobody minds him with Storm. Vincent is half-cat, and while the writers of Beauty and the Beast tried to convince the audience that because of this he should Never Have Sex, I don't know of any fans who actually bought the logic.
So Wookiees are furry, somewhat inarticulate aliens. So what? They're clearly intelligent, and when they interact with humans it's as equals, not as pets. Why shouldn't they have sex with humans, if Superman gets to?
If I'm to theorize, I think it has to do with real-world expectations making its way into scifi worlds. Big furry thing that speaks in howls reads as animal, rather than human, while a big furry thing that speaks English is another matter entirely. :-) Rather like how Dawn/Spike is ickier than Buffy/Angel even though they're really closer in age, because Dawn was played by an actual teenager and Buffy wasn't. (And as somebody pointed out, since soulless Buffyverse vampires technically take over the body of a dead person, Sam/Ruby on SPN is the same level of ickiness as Buffy/Spike. The difference being that we've seen Ruby in several bodies and so are more aware that this one isn't her real one.)
