beauty in the eye of the beholder and all that

A tip from ninth_wonders sent me to the AfterElton hot 100 list. While many favourite faces were on the list (Taye Diggs in the top 5, John Barrowman at 10, both Supernatural boys and four of the Heroes boys further down the list), there were also a lot that made me go "yeah, not so much."

Moving on to the AfterEllen hot 100 on the other hand, made me much ( Read more... )

Let's see... John definitely, Heath (I suspect this is more because of the charm he seems to extrude), Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Jensen (Jared too, but not so much), Milo (not in that picture though, that was really really bad), Foxy and Josh in their own ways, Clive Owen (not really, but he makes the list), uh why is Johnny so far down on the list?, same goes for Ewan and then there's of course Seth.

Hmm, I guess manly men just ain't my type ;). But I also think this was proved a while ago.

Now for the girls;

Leisha, yes, Kate Kate Kate, Lena is yum, Ang has never done much for me. Sara is stunning, Jordana is meh (this 'cause I always compare her to Michelle Rodriguez since they starred in the fast and the furious together), Natalie, Salma, ELIZA and Scarlet, definitely. Kiera never was that big of a hit for me, Jodie and Kate <3, Halle eww, Emily Blunt (I always like my redheads I guess), I wouldn't kick Evie out but meh, Erin and Michelle - holy crap YES, Gwen Turner (thank you Kevin Smith for that one), Mary-Louise, Jessica Biel, ( ... )

Ooh and I forgot Rosario Dawson... Plus the list lacks some Amy Smart and Rachel Bilson and Sarah Silverman.

I think that was the part where I definitely realized I wasn't on the same page as these guys. Up until then I had kind of forgotten he existed, but he definitely deserved a better spot, especially considering the competition.

Yeah, same here. There's a reason "looks hot in drag" is one of the main attractions in a man for me.

And where's Clea?

Clea's #40. It isn't a very good pic of her.

I had basically the same reaction (aside from the Maxim list, which I haven't looked at yet). I think with the men it was that most of them somehow look alike - all sculpted and chiselled and perfectly tanned and smooth. I guess I go more for thin, quirky types.

Thin and quirky is good. I tend to like them femme but dishevelled, though my taste sort of varies a bit. So this list was a tad too manly and clean for me.

Yes, exactly. I think their "manliest" guy I still like would be Hugh Jackman (not on that picture though. That makes him look vaguely like George Michael circa Faith, and that's not really something that suits him.), but in general I would go more in the direction of... David Tennant? And with some, it's really the pictures - see John Rhys-Myers, hairstyle of. Usually, he is quite good-looking, but that?

I also think that at least the After Ellen women are a little more diverse in general. (Although the appeal of Ms. Lohan seriously escapes me)
