The Kiss is one of Rodin's most widely recognized works. Originally conceived as part of The Gates of Hell but never incorporated into the final monument. The figures in The Kiss represent Paolo and Francesca from Dante's Inferno. Rodin captures the moment when the doomed pair realize their love, the book still clutched in Paolo's left hand.
