Reading my recent "lemming" post, I guess I can understand why I have such trouble explaining my taste in books and movies to people.  I guess the fact that I'm currently in the middle of both Right Ho, Jeeves and Perdido Street Station (yes, still, for reasons explained below that are not the author's fault) would also illustrate that.

I am where I am supposed to be, and I'm safe so far, though my roomie hasn't shown up yet.  I'm exhausted.  I probably will post a travelogue eventually, but it's going to have to be a severely edited version of my personal journal.

For some reason I don't feel as excited as I think I should be.  But as I'm leaving the country for the first time, flying alone for the first time, having a connecting flight for the first time, and checking a bag for the first time in many years, I haven't quite gotten to the "I'm going to be in Switzerland?!" stage yet.  Presumably I will when/ ( Read more... )

So last night we had a mini-bonfire in a tailgate grill in the parking lot and roasted marshmallows and ate s'mores.  Which was delightful, as it was a cool fall evening and the night was almost completely still so I barely got coated with smoke at all.

Lesson learned- walking through the cafeteria at odd hours of the afternoon may well change your life. Not necessarily for the worse, or for the better. Which way this goes I don't know yet.
