The Christmas gift program has found my weakness
One of the kids my office is buying gifts for this year wants books about animals, particularly whales. Animal books! Ask me how much time I've spent surfing Amazon looking for whale books appropriate for a nine-year-old. Go on, ask. (I did sadly decide that the one about a marine biologist studying bowhead whales was probably not a good way to go, because his study is in concert with Inupiat hunters. I would've been okay with that at nine, but I don't know this kid so perhaps I won't hit them with surprise flensing.)
(Like, do I count books about killer whales? They're actually dolphins. How much of a whale nerd is this kid? Probably not actually much of a whale nerd, because I am undoubtedly overidentifying, but. BOOKS. I want to buy ALL OF THEM.)
