Short-form explanation: The next in the set of posts touring my collection of Vids I Saw Twice And Then Thought I'd Probably Like To See Again Someday. I've tried to abide by any instructions from the vidder regarding publicity and distribution, but if I've linked in error, I'll be happy to correct it. Previous recs
here.
Right Now Someone Is Reading This Title
I get about four of the jokes in this vid, but I'm in love with it anyway, because it's so purely, exuberantly fannish. The vocabulary is different, but the music's the same, if that makes any sense. And if there's anything more adorable than fannish toddlers, I'd like to see it.
When preparing this list of recs, it occurred to me, hey, the original music video this is--parodying? Honoring?--is probably pretty old. I wonder if there are people in fandom right now who wouldn't get the reference? So I looked it up, and yes, that's very likely, since it appears to be from about 1992. So just in case:
Right Now, by Van Halen.
Right Now Someone Is Reading This Title No Fear No Hate No Pain
This is a beautiful, atmospheric, graceful vid that made me very curious about the movie until
nestra assured me that I would probably be happier just sticking with the contextless vid. But anyway, it's pretty and I recommend it. Whatever the failings of the writing may have been--and I hasten to say I have no personal knowledge of that--I think it looks good.
Zed's Vids Failed Experiments in Video Editing
Heeeee. Even if you aren't a vidder, this will feel very familiar to you if you've ever tried to create any kind of art. Also, I think of this vid every time I hear Down in the River to Pray nowadays, which... I mean, points to the vid for sticking with me, but I like that song, dammit!
Failed Experiments in Video Editing Anthem X
I actually struggled with whether or not to rec this vid. I don't know the source at all, and I don't know that I love the vid, but... I am charmed by it, and it does make me wish I knew what was going on. I have the vague impression--probably colored by the rec of
coffeeandink's that I picked this up off of--that the series in question is perhaps not quite as slyly lazy as the song, but... I don't know. My gut is telling me that I would love the vid if I knew what the heck was going on, and I like it enough to want to rec it, so.
Anthem X Mad World
(Note that I downloaded version one; version two is presumably different.)
I am not actually a big HP fan. I've read several of the books, and they were fine; I've seen the movies, and again, they were fine; but they don't grab me. Just this year, though, I've found a couple of vids that made me think "see, now, if it felt like that when I was experiencing the canon I would totally be a fan," and this is one of them. I love the washed-out, silent-movie coloring of the visuals, the slight offness of it, blended with the wistful, creepy fairy-tale sound of the song. Not technically stunning (though as I said, I like what the vidder did with the color) but very atmospheric.
