A grey day

Not commenting on the state of the world as it is just too depressing.

We had a couple of sunny and pleasant days last week but today we are under a pall of grey cloud which looks as if it wants to rain on us but can't quite manage it. Luckily one of last week's nice days was a day when we had planned to spend a morning sitting in some friends' garden and then go out for a snacky lunch. As we hadn't seen them for nearly 18 months we had a very pleasant time but I have to say that we've got out of the habit of socialising as when we got home we were exhausted. It isn't as if we haven't been out to see friends at other times this year but they were people we've been in touch with by phone and talk to regularly so meeting people we haven't communicated with all that much was surprisingly tiring. The concentration involved in actually listening to people, rather than half listening to each other wore us out!

In decluttering news we were sorting a clothes rail that we have in our bedroom and discovered that half of it was taken up with coat hangers. I don't often go to the dry cleaners but as I had something that needed cleaning anyway I seized the opportunity to ask my dry cleaner whether she wanted any wire coat hangers. She nearly fell on my neck in gratitude as the price of metal coat hangers has gone up and they are now thinking of asking their customers to bring their coat hangers back. This doesn't help with the plastic ones but at least I can now get rid of the large number of metal coat hangers that seem to have bred on our clothes rail.

Back to the meme.

11. When it comes to friends, what's the biggest thing you have in common?

Depends on the friend really. With my old school friends it is shared experience as it is with old work chums. With other friends I would say that it was shared interests and shared sense of humour.

12. Did you ever hit anything while learning to drive?

I might have hit the curb a couple of times but nothing else.

13. Do you prefer bright colors, dark colors, or pastel colors?

It depends on my mood really. When I was younger I would always have said pastel but now I'm leaning brighter. I've been really enjoying the orange colours in my garden at the moment and orange is not a colour I would ever have chosen a few years ago.

14. How long have you lived with the person/people you currently live with?

Coming up for 38 years.

15. What was the dumbest thing you ever did as a teenager?

Drinking some of a friend's homemade wine in a pub was fairly stupid though we didn't get caught. Drinking the wine at all was pretty stupid (think paint stripper) but doing it in a pub was doubly so as you aren't supposed to drink anything not sold on the premises.

16. Would you prefer hardwood flooring or carpet in your home?

Hardwood every time. My parents' house had lovely old parquet flooring and that would be my ideal floor. Unfortunately I live in a house with carpets which I am currently working on losing, but it is a long campaign :)

17. What’s the most you’ll pay for a pair of shoes?

It depends on the shoes. I could see myself paying over £100 for a decent pair of walking boots but I normally wouldn't spend that much.

The rest of the August questions are behind the cut.

18. Which flower is your favorite?
19. Which season do you think is the prettiest?
20. What is the last thing you cooked?
21. If you could live in a fictional world, which would it be?
22. Where was the farthest you’ve ever traveled from home?
23. Have you ever slammed the door when you were mad?
24. How old were you when you met your first love?
25. Were your college years the best years of your life?
26. What’s the most relaxing thing you did today?
27. What do you usually drink with breakfast?
28. How many closets does your house have?
29. What year is your car?
30. What’s the largest animal you’ve ever had as a pet?
31. Do you have a garden or outside space?
