I had a nice surprise last Thursday when friend C sent me a message to say she would be in the area on Friday and could we meet up. It turned out that her husband had taken a party of teenagers away on a camping trip and several of them had tested positive for Covid. They were supposed to be going to Kent to babysit their daughter's children for the weekend but as husband arrived home through one door C left through the other to ensure she had no contact with him and was still available for baby-sitting duties. We had a nice walk and a coffee in a cafe with a pleasant courtyard, so that was nice.
C is currently clearing her aunt's flat and discovering things wrapped in newspaper dated 1963, which apparently must have stayed wrapped through several house moves! This has given us further inspiration, if any was needed, to carry on decluttering. I have just popped in to a small antiques shop in the area to find out if they were buying anything but unfortunately they aren't at the moment. I had to leave rather quickly as they had some really pretty china plates that matched a tea set that I inherited from my great-aunt. It would have been a pity to go in to a shop to try and get rid of a few things only to walk out with more.
18. Which flower is your favorite?
It depends on the season. In spring I'm a big fan of tulips, in summer it's roses and in autumn it's big blowsy flowers like dahlias.
19. Which season do you think is the prettiest?
Spring is the prettiest, autumn the most beautiful.
20. What is the last thing you cooked?
The last thing I cooked rather than assembled was Hake Mornay, otherwise known as fish in cheese sauce. I don't usually bother to make a cheese sauce but we had too much milk so I did it from scratch and I actually managed to keep it lump free so was quite pleased with myself.
21. If you could live in a fictional world, which would it be?
As I usually read books where rather unpleasant things are happening this is quite a tricky question to answer. Perhaps the Shire in the years after the War of the Ring when things seemed to have been peaceful and pleasant.
22. Where was the farthest you’ve ever traveled from home?
New Zealand
23. Have you ever slammed the door when you were mad?
Chance would be a fine thing. Our kitchen has no door, our sitting room has a sliding door and none of our other doors shut very easily. Even our inner front door, which was slammable, has taken to bouncing open if shut too quickly. I have nothing to slam.
The rest of the August questions are behind the cut.

28. How many closets does your house have?
29. What year is your car?
30. What’s the largest animal you’ve ever had as a pet?
31. Do you have a garden or outside space?
