We've located a vessel belonging to species 6339 on long-range sensors, and have plotted an intercept course in the hopes they can give us some insight about the virus infecting the Borg vinculum--and how to counter its effects.

Meanwhile, our latest attempt to shut down the vinculum was a failure. At first the dampening field appeared to be working, lowering the device's power output by 30%. seven_of_nine's pattern was stabilizing--and then the vinculum 'reasserted' itself.

emh did what he could, but Seven's pattern has been lost. Her primary cortical functions are more or less stable, but new personalities are appearing every few seconds. The strain on her cerebral cortex is immense. If we don't manage to deactivate the vinculum *soon*, it's going to be too late. The Doctor admits he has run out of medical options.

Tuvok volunteered to meld with Seven, in an attempt to help her own neural pattern emerge from the chaotic whirlpool her mind has become. The Doctor has expressed grave doubts; even if Tuvok is successful, he is placing himself at great risk. I can't say I'm too fond of the idea myself--it's dangerous enough to meld with one person, let alone hundreds of personalities--but it may be the only course of action open to us.

Tuvok says he needs two hours to prepare for the meld, and then he will proceed. I only hope I don't lose *both* of them...

Just got a hail from the bridge. chakotay reports we're within range of the alien vessel.
