Well, I've just spent an interesting few hours in Sickbay with seven_of_nine.

I've swapped jokes with a Bolian manicurist, and before that I was debating temporal physics with a Krenim scientist. Twelve new personalities have surfaced in the last hour alone. Seven's having an increasingly difficult time; emh was forced to sedate her.

I keep thinking about what chakotay said, repeatedly, over the last year--that it may be impossible to ever bring her into the fold. To forcibly separate a drone from the Collective and make her human again. Picard did it, of course, but he had spent his entire life as a human; his existence as a member of the Collective was damaging, but brief. Seven was only a child when she was assimilated, the Collective is all she has ever known except for the short time she's been with us on Voyager. I've tried so hard--it hasn't been easy, there have been times and incidents which have led me to question the validity of my attempts--but I always felt that one day we would succeed. I can even point to 'milestones' along the way that made me ever more certain that Seven was on her way to becoming the adjusted and happy young woman she was meant to be, and would have been but for the intervention of the Borg. And now...I never thought I would lose her this way.

paristorres has just contacted the Bridge, saying she's ready to try shutting down the vinculum. God knows, this had better succeed, because we're running out of options.
