Kat "Techbane" Rowe

The last week has just been bizarre. As I mentioned in my last post, I seem to have acquired a Techbane aura recently. I keep crashing registers left, right, and center. My printer keeps jamming (whether I've loaded it or someone else has). The SCO (self-checkout) shuts down in self-defense if a manager even considers assigning me there. Our server insists that I'm clocked in when I'm not and that I've worked longer than I'm legally allowed to when I've been on the clock five minutes. This morning, when I tried to log onto my register, I was informed that I was already logged onto register 10.

And then there was last night's critical paint-mixer failure.

I have mixed paint more times than I can count. It's not difficult, honest. But, last night, as I was working on the floor since the combined override power of every manager in the store couldn't get (and/or KEEP) me on register, a customer needed paint mixed and the guy who normally would was on lunch. So a coworker grabbed me since I'm trained in that.

It went well. Until it was time to load the tinted base into the shaker. I centered and balanced the paint on the platform, lowered the restraining arm, and turned it on. Which is when a can of royal blue paint shook free, lost its lid, and sprayed paint everywhere. Cue Kat uttering words a lady's not even supposed to KNOW in front of two very shocked customers. Further cue Kat spending the rest of her shift trying to clean up very, very dark blue paint from the floor, counter, and paint mixer. Apparently the doohickey designed to keep the paint cans in place decided not to work while Miss Techbane was standing there *points to icon to illustrate reaction to these events*

fans of The Dresden Files ("Do not enter this office before I turn off my computer, Dresden!") will understand what I mean when I say I'm starting to consider getting a VW beetle for my next car. everyone else will understand when I say that technology dislikes me right now for no good reason I can explain...

wtf?, work
