Discount Armageddon
by Seanan McGuire
An InCryptid novel
I love this book! Seriously this series seemed to have been designed specificly for me. The main character is a cryptozoologist (monster hunter) That is on the side of studying the cryptids and understanding their place in the ecosystem. There of course is a rival faction of monster hunters (The Covenant) that believes the monsters all need to die they are abominations. Well in order to train her body to fight and stay in hiding from the covenant our star (Verity Price) learns to dance. Ballroom dance to be specific. As a ballroom dancer myself that loves stories of bigfoot and mermaids this book seems hand tailored to my tastes.
The book does not disappoint. I love the way McGuire unravels her plot. Every time I read one of her books I catch something new. This is probably the forth time I have read Discount Armageddon and I am still finding foreshadowing I have missed previously. There is a gratitious sex scene in the book but it is written well enough I wouldn't blush even reading it at work. McGuire keeps it classy and I really appreciate that. There is enough dance mentions to keep me giggling and enough combat to keep be interested. This book I have/will recommend to everyone I know. There just seems to be something in there for everyone.
I leave you with perhaps my favorite quote from the book though it is very hard for me to choose "Crazy gets all the knives."
