Japan 2012 trip - Day 1 - Denmark pt. 1

May 02, 2012 21:15

Luckily I haven't posted any pics from our holidays so far (not counting the goods post), so I should be able to cover at least one week of my challenge *g*
Let's start with the first day of our holidays = Copenhagen!

We arrived at Copenhagen airport around 8:30 AM and it only took us about 30 minutes to get two City Passes (= train/bus/metro tickets) and 700 DKK (~ 100 €) which were supposed to get us through the following 8 hours.

There were about three ticket vending machines right in the airport and those were CROWDED. Once we were first in line there, we found out that those machines didn't sell the tickets we were looking for, so we queued again at the manned counter and were successful :-) The first 140 DKK were spent on the City Passes.

The metro ride into the city takes about 15 minutes and the weather was just lovely, albeit a bit cold, but we came prepared for the Danish "spring" *g*
Look at the pic below: Blue skies, a few clouds.

From the station "Kongens Nytorv" it was only a short walk (around two corners), to the harbour were we wanted to take a sight-seeing boat. Some months ago I read on the HP of the company that they offered combined tickets for the tour + Tivoli entrance, but since then they changed their HP and I couldn't find the information any longer. I asked the staff anyway for said tickets and yes, they still sold them :-)
We were 260 DKK shorter, but had boat and Tivoli tickets. The next boat (and first for the day) left maybe four minutes later. Perfect timing ^^

The tour took us around the harbour and some parts of the city of Copenhagen - and under very low and/or narrow bridges. You'll see that one later.

Now... impressions of the harbour.

And of course the Little Mermaid. Our tour guide said that we could easily hop off and then take the next boat in about 20-25 minutes. We walked the few metres to the statue, took our pictures, saw that our boat was still there and then made a run for it and continued the tour.

Copenhagen...

Somehow this reminds me of Amsterdam.

Hanami *gggggggg*

This was the narrowest bridge of the ones we went under (yeah, the boat went through the small "hole" on the left). When was asked her, the tour guide said that on some days they have to shorten the trip, due to the tides, because the boats can't pass under some of the bridges ^^;;;

Whatever-Church. We've seen it from quite a lot of angles on that day.
We left the boat at this point and decided to walk through the city to the Tivoli. Copenhagen isn't the biggest city, so it was really just a short walk.

Just to make sure you still know in which country we are ;-)

Said church again.

And this is where we finish today. Next up should be some city pics + Tivoli.
