After having lunch, we arrived very much in time for the English guided tour around the Imperial Palace in Kyoto.
The weather was cloudy, but at least it didn't rain ^_^
13:44 - Those are the outer walls of the palace grounds. See the corner at the very far right of the picture? Yes, there is the other corner.
14:06 - Even with the map in front of me, I can't figure out which gate this one is...
14:11 - Wall paintings inside the Shodaibunoma. I think they said that the tigers were drawn without that the artist ever saw any. He was just going by descriptions.
14:19 - This should be Okuromayose, even though it looks slightly different from the pictures in the guide...
14:28 - The main building. Shishinden.
There are walls etc surrounding the area in front of the building (inner south garden) and you are not allowed to enter said garden, which makes it almost impossible to take a picture of the whole building.
If you squint hard, you can see something golden on top of the stairs. Those are the lower parts of the Imperial thrones.
14:20 - Kenrei-mon. This gate is used by the Emperor only (and apparently for just a handful of presidents and/or kings from other countries)
14:30 - Kenshu-mon. The gate used by the Empress.
14:38 - Close-up of the Seiryoden. On this lovely tatami mat the Emperor would sit in summer and receive official that weren't that important = daily life issues.
14:52 - Kogosho. The Emperor used to receive shoguns and daimyos here.
14:59 - Wall painting. Most likely it was in Otsunegoten, which served as home for the Emperor.
14:51 - And now... on to the garden pictures. Keyaki-bashi in Oike-niwa.
14:58 - Gonaitei
