At first, I wasn't going to write about Dene's baby shower. I figured that I bitched about it enough and that anyone reading my journal would think that I'm not happy for Dene. Before I start ranting to get it off of my chest, I want to say that I am happy that I went and I am happy for Dene. She had a nice shower and got many, many presents. Ok, now to my rant...
First off, it was about four hours. Four very, very long hours. The shower was in a private room at Marie Callender's and we had access to the sunday brunch buffet. This was nice, I might steal the idea for Julie's shower. The room that we were in was upstairs and completely separate from any other part of the restaurant They had a server to take care of drinks, loads of mimosa's and coffee.
I only vaguely knew a few people at the shower. The first girl that I was introduced to, Laura, stuck by my side for the entire shower. She was irritating. She constantly repeated "How Precious" or "Oh, Precious, " to respond to anything.
Me- I met Dene, when we both were doing a bear project at the zoo.
Laura- How Precious
Me- I work at Universal Studios.
Laura- That's precious.
Me- Another Mimosa?
Laura- Oh, Precious
Grrrr....The "precious" really started when it was time to open presents.
Some people didn't show up, so there were actually less children at the shower than were expected. The babies were cute and mostly slept. There was six year old who was a terror. He was loud, got into everything, made life a living hell for the server, et... At one point, I felt something on touching my leg and caught him trying to lift up my skirt.
Lots of games. I hate shower games. We played the "dirty diaper game," where candy bars are smashed into diapers and you have to guess the kind of candy bar. It was gross. The games seemed to go on forever. Following the games, was a arts and crafts segment,, where everyone decorated clothes for the baby. I refused to participate. Dene tried to make me feel bad.." What will we tell Kaden, when she asks what aunt Karen decorated?" I doubt the baby will care. I told her that I will have Marc make something, he likes doing that kind of stuff. I hate craft projects!!!
During the present time, something occurred to me. I could have gone shopping for a present at Petco. A lot of the baby toys, look like something from our cat's toy basket. Hey, that looks familiar, I think Nicolette has one. One crib toy, looked suspiciously like something you would hang a bird cage. Some people treat their pets like babies...maybe the similarities are more than I previously thought!
Many other small annoyances or mainly annoying people. If you couldn't tell, I'm not very social. I will continue more ranting in the spring, when I am throwing Julie's shower.
